I haven't had frequent coldsores (5-6 times a year) like a lot of people, but I received my first one as a kid..then twice as a teen (14-16) and now this is my second time this year at 22.I have to say it is completely EMBARASSING to have a cold sore especially if you are in college like me and work in a place where people are constantly in your face.I was working when I felt that the lower corner of my lip was bruising..I thought maybe I had cut it while eating some chips. But after work when I looked in my car mirror...I saw two small pimply white dotted bumps beginning to cluster up on me. So I came here and read the reviews and Unlike most of the people here, I have no idea when I'm going to get one..my mouth does not tingle like everyone elses. Therefore when most of the reveiwers said abreva wasnt as good if your sore broke the skin i instantly became deterred. However, I had no other choices so I picked it up anyway. And Might I add its [$].I began rubbing abreva on every 1-2 hours (a very small amount) and icing the sore in between (I hear it helps too) and needless to say..my sore went away in maybe 3 days. I couldnt believe it..the last coldsore I had lasted almost 2 weeks and it looked horrible and deformed I even missed classes because of it and wore a bandaid. (It sat off to the side of my lip)I'd like to add that during the three days..my sore didnt get any worse then what it was when I found it..it did not form into a monster it just blended with my skin until it began to heal..I even went out completely unphased by it. NO ONE noticed it...I am so a believer of abreva now, and if you find yourself in the boat I was in..just make sure you apply often (to be safe) and ice it 3 times a day as well..(until the icecube melts). Abreva is great and even thought its small it helped me greatly however, I think icing it made it work even better.4 out of 5 because it did cost me [$] and the tube is really small.

Before i used Abreva, i recall how i use to get full blown cold sores that i just couldn't anything about. My research led me to buy Lysine tablets, and Abreva. Well i took a daily tablet of 1000mg Lysine and made sure to keep my face away from the sun or exposure of cold wind. The thing is I'm an athlete and i ve been running cold mornings and work out constantly. I guess that led to stress, because one morning i got a red blemish right under my nose. HUGH!! I applied abreva and doubled my Lysine intake. The cold sore never totally blew out to a blistering mess. Instead i had a really noticeable red blemish that still made me feel uncomfortable about. This continued for 9 days. I had high hopes that my steps would even prevent a cold sore from forming but it did not. Oh well, i will still continue to buy until i find something better.
Comments about Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, .07 oz:
First sign of cold sore was Monday. I used religiously and it is Wednesday night and it is gone. I went through the full cycle of a cold sore in 2.5 days. This is the third time I have used in 3 years. You have to use at first sign, once it hits the blister stage, it will not be as effective. Always have it ready. This product is totally worth the price.

Comments about Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, .07 oz:
The most effective remedy I have ever used for cold sores. If you apply it immediately when you feel a cold sore coming on, Abreva will immediately begin to treat it and keep it under control. It's very expensive for the tiny amount you get, however Abreva is the best cold sore remedy I have ever tried.
Apply to affected area on face or lips at the first sign of cold sore / fever blister (tingle). Early treatment ensures the best results.
Rub in gently but completely.
Use 5 times a day until healed.
Children under 12 years: Ask a doctor.
Store at 20° – 25°C (68° – 77°F). Do not freeze. Retain carton for full product uses, directions and warnings.
Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment
– Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment is a medicated cream used to treat cold sores, which are also called fever blisters or oral herpes. When applied to the lip at the first signs of a cold sore, Abreva has been shown to reduce a cold sore's appearance in as little as 2.5 days by keeping the cold sore virus from multiplying. Using Abreva at just the right time and applying it regularly may help speed recovery time, reducing noticeable and painful cold sores.
Indications for Use
A cold sore typically goes through five stages before it is completely gone. These include: early stage/tingling, blister stage, the ulcer/blister bursting stage, scabbing stage and healing stage. Abreva manufacturers recommend using the product at the first signs of a cold sore, during the "tingling" stage. During this stage, the lip may feel as if it is itching, burning, tingling or tight. The area may appear slightly red and start to swell, but the actual blistered area has not yet formed.
Instructions for Use
Abreva should be applied five times a day for more than 10 days or until the blister is healed. Apply every three to four waking hours. After washing your hands, apply the cream with either a cotton swab or your fingers. The blister and the area around it should be covered. You do not have to rub the cream in completely as it will turn into a clear film when dried. You should not share your Abreva with another person -- you can always order an additional tube from drugstore.com.
Benefits and Effectiveness
Abreva cream has been shown to reduce the incidence of cold sores in those ages 12 and older. The typical cold sore can last anywhere from 8 to 14 days. While there is no cure for cold sores, Abreva can heal up to 25 percent of cold sores in 2.5 days. The average cold sore typically heals in 4.1 days when using Abreva.
The cream is the only FDA-approved over-the-counter cold sore treatment. By reducing the cold sore's duration, you can cut down on the discomfort and unattractive appearance of a blistering or scabbing cold sore.
