Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 93 customer reviews.Great products, really works
by embarrassing coldsore sufferer[Verified Reviewer] in Virginia on 11/15/09
Pros: Heals quickly
Cons: Pricey
Describe Yourself: Once or twice a year
Best Uses: To heal cold sores
Bottom Line: recommended
Oh my gosh, how embarrassing to have a cold sore. With this product, I soon as I feel one coming, I can get rid of it with this product before the sore even really surfaces. If you don't catch it in time, it will be gone within a couple of days with this product none the less. I highly recommend it. Some take Lysine in addition for a bad breakout, which is also a really good preventative when under stress when outbreaks show up and to get rid of cold sores quickly. Hope this helps someone else out there too.

I've used this for about a year to help with cold sores. It works really well if you catch your cold sore just as it is appearing, or starting to appear (first 12 hours or so). If you try applying it after the cold sore has already formed, it doesn't give you much benefit at all. It is very convenient, but a little expensive. That said, I always keep one tube around.

Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment rates 2 out of 5 stars, from 93 customer reviews.Does not work fast, but would buy again

Pros: Topical
Cons: Does not heal cold sores
Describe Yourself: Casual User
Best Uses: As needed
Bottom Line: not recommended
Everyone responds differently to a product. For me, Abreva did not work on my cold sores. I did not notice any fast healing. I applied the cream a couple of times a day and did not see any results. The cold sore lasted the same amount of time if I had not applied Abreva. I will probably purchase again, it did not make anything worse.

Pros: Easy To Use

Abreva is very expensive, but it does seem to get rid of cold sores more quickly than letting nature take its course. It's best to start using it immediately. The biggest problem besides the cost is the packaging. I've tried both the pump and the squeeze tube. The pump is hard to control, so you invariably get more than you really need for each application. the tube makes that easier, but be careful when you first puncture it to open it -- a big bunch squirted out the minute it opened and there's no way to put it back in. As much as this stuff costs, you don't want to waste a single dab -- and that's almost impossible to avoid. Still, it works so well I'll keep buying it until I find another product that works as well but is packaged to be more user-friendly.

Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment rates 4 out of 5 stars, from 93 customer reviews.I'm happy
by L[Verified Reviewer] in Berkeley, CA on 5/2/09
Cons: Pricey

I was 14 the last time I got a cold sore. That was a long time ago. Then, I was told to put alcohol on it to dry it up. That advice left me with a slight discoloration that took 20 years to fade. So when I saw some swelling on my upper lip a few days ago, I panicked. This time I read the drugstore.com reviews and saw that Abreva was what worked for most people. I assumed I'd also need to get a prescription for an antiviral medication so I checked with a pharmacist. She took me right to the Abreva and gave me her personal testimony that it works. The next day it was smaller and less angry. 3 days later, there is just a tiny scab and it's barely noticeable. I spent [$] on this stuff but it spared me 3 weeks of misery and an expensive doctor's visit. I'm happy

I am prone to fever sores. Whenever I feel the slightest tingle, I apply abreve and it prevents the eruption, providing immediate relief. Because I always apply at the very first symptoms, I can't say how it works on a full-on breakout. But thanks to this product, which I always have on hand, I haven't experienced a major eruption in years.
Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 93 customer reviews.Really Helps Reduce Cold Sores
by flyintl[Verified Buyer] in San Francisco, CA on 3/24/09
Pros: Easy To Use, Reduces duration
Cons: Expensive
Describe Yourself: Casual User
Bottom Line: recommended
This is the only topical over the counter treatment that works to reduce the duration and intensity of cold sores. I put it on as soon as the area starts to "tingle" and a little red bump appears. If I put it on early enough, the cold sore is averted, but if I can't apply it early enough, the cold sore still appears, but it's duration and intensity is lessened dramatically.
