I love this moisturizer. Works great, keeps my skin hydrated all day long. My skin type is extremely dry, and this has made it incredibly soft and retains the moisture, even when using foundation and/or powder.

This product is not for me. I have very sensitive skin, so I gave it a try. It was a mistake as my skin was irritated. I too went back to my Cetaphil moisturizer and am totally satisfied with it and it has no fragrance. My dermatologist told me Cetaphil was the best moisturizer for sensitive dry skin. I also wanted to mention to those of you who are really dry that twice a week after moisturizing with my Cetaphil (at night), I follow that with olive oil (the cosmetic one!). I use DHC skincare olive virgin oil. You put it in your palm and rub your hands together to warm it, and then you pat it on over your moisturizer. It holds in the moisture, and also feels great. When I do this, the next day my skin feels like satin. Try it; it really works. I think it costs a lot per bottle, but it lasts a long time and it never irritates at all. P.S. Hope in a Jar does smell awful.

I used this stuff while taking Accutane and it gave me horrible cysts under my skin that weren't there before or after using this product. I should have used the other formula, but I liked that this one was for 'sensitive' skin. It feels and smells nice, but it is not something I would put on my own face ever again.

This stuff is horrible! It smells so bad that I couldn't use it on my face. I gave it to a friend.

I'm mystified by the people who say this product smells bad -- it smells like sage. This product isn't meant for people in their teens or twenties; the consistency makes it obvious that it was made for older people with sensitive and very dry skin - skin that is dry because age has stopped the production of natural skin oils and there isn't enough humidity in the air where they live year-round to replenish any of the moisture. For those people, like me, it isn't greasy. It's soothing and is absorbed readily. And as I said before, it smells like sage to me and is very relaxing to put on before bed. I do use a lighter moisturizer during the day under make-up -- one with an SPF factor. But for someone who is older and lives in the desert, the therapeutic moisturizer is truly wonderful.

Horrible. I used this in the winter, and my skin was still dry. It was too harsh, and it smelled really bad. It's too oily to use this spring. I can't believe I wasted so much money on a bogus product. I want my money back. Cetaphil moisturizer is MUCH better. From now on, I'll stick to the cheaper stuff. I've bought several expensive moisturizers, and this stuff was the all time worst!

I have basically the same skin care problems as all the other reviewers of this product...dryness, flakes, redness. I bought this because I really wanted to try and get rid of my dry patches which it did help, but it also made me break out. Really bad. To be honest, besides helping moisturize my dry patches a little, I didn't see much of a difference in my skin at all using this product. I think this stuff is pretty expensive for not doing much of anything!

I'm allergic to most lotions and creams and have had a difficult time finding something for my very dry skin. This product has been a lifesaver! Normally all year long my skin is flaky but since the first time I used this, I don't have to reapply moisturizer to my face during the day. Before, it was every couple of hours that I'd see the flakiness return. Also, I've had no allergic reactions to any of the philosophy products.

This has worked so well for me. I'm 35, was still getting the occasional blemish, but had dry stressed skin that couldn't take acne-oriented moisturizers. Now, I use this morning and night as my only moisturizer (my foundation has an SPF) and no more blemishes or dry areas on my skin! I just wish they made a daytime version with a high SPF.

Amazing. My face gets so dry and blotchy that I have often been asked if I had rosacea (I don't). I have tried so many different products - most of which have been mentioned in other reviews. Last year, my wife talked me into trying "hope in a jar". It is simply amazing; it reduces the redness and provides lasting moisture without causing breakouts (thanks for that gene, too, Mom & Dad!) The only drawback is that it is too heavy for use in the summer, but today in New England that seems a long way away!
