Pros: Accurate, Compact, Easy To Use, Reliable
Cons: Painful
Describe Yourself: Gestational
Best Uses: Adults, Travel
Bottom Line: recommended
The lanclet took 4 pokes to get the setting right because the meter takes a larger blood sample than i'm use to (I have a family history & am familiar with diabetes, but not actually diabetic). I had to set it to lvl 5; almost the highest penetration it will go. This makes the poke kind of painful and once i flinched and bruised myself. All my testing is done on my finger tips. Getting the blood on the stip is easiest if it's not in the machine, but the 20 seconds it gives you seems a lot less. Setting up the meter was really easy and the lanclet pen is easier to use than some i've used. However, both the pharmasist & I commented on how the lanclet would be hard to get out to replace. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like poking myself is bound to happen. I would use this for tavel, the occational use, or the "i'm not feeling well" random tests. I don't think I could use this everyday long term because of the lanclet pen. If i could find a similar shaped and sized one that didn't hurt it would be perfect.

Pros: Accurate, Easy To Use, Inexpensive
Cons: Larger blood drop needed
Describe Yourself: Type I
Best Uses: Adults, Daily Use

I used my prior Accu-Chek Active for over 2 years without much issue. It's main advantage is that it is the least expensive to use for those with limited or no medical benefit: 50 strips for $33 or less, compared to $50 for many other meters. You can pull and reinsert the strip to use sites on the arm, but I haven't tried that. Since the meter uses infrared light, avoid using this meter in locations with variable light conditions (like a moving car passing through shadows).

Our Accu-Chek Active is great. It's been very EZ to use and has very fast response. And the price was the big clincher for us. We asked a local pharmacist and she said this one was as good as the rest with accuracy, so that's what mattered to us. So, that and affordability helped in our decision a lot.

I have had several machines since being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1998. I have had the Accu-chek Active for a little over 2 years. It has been a very reliable machine. I have done tests with a range of sample sizes and have had very accurate results. The only problem I had with my machine was recently when the battery needed to be changed. Instead of me getting the low battery warning, I kept getting the recalibrate warning. I figured out the battery problem about a week later, got a new battery, and I am back on track with my monitoring. I still have 2 other meters, but this one is the primary meter.

Works fine for me. It's fast, simple to use, and compact. The test strips are a bit cheaper than some other models. I don't test often, only when curious, so I don't care about any storage functions, so I can't comment on anything other than its simplicity, speed, and smallness. Just fine with me.

I purchased the Accu-Chek Active a bit more than a year ago. I found it so frustrating to use that I ended up putting it in a drawer a few months later, and am now shopping for a new one. The biggest problem was that, unless I had the exact right amount of blood (not too little, but not too much, and certainly not in between!) and applied the blood in exactly the right spot, I would get an error message. I was spending an hour or so a day trying to get this thing to work, and sometimes it would - usually, though...not! I looked like Bride of Frankenstein with all the pinpricks in me, and was wasting so much time trying to get a reading that I finally gave up on it and put it away. Don't waste your money - buy a good one from the start.

This device is too awkward. It is not simple at all. It takes too many steps.
