Pros: Clear Instructions, Discrete, Easy To Use, Reliable
Describe Yourself: Athletic, Medical Professional
Best Uses: Regular Use, Testing
Bottom Line: recommended
Regarding the negative reviews here, I think that perhaps comparing this product to a hospital lab result can be misleading. First, you do not have to fast with this test but all labs and doctor offices require you to fast 12 hours prior to their test. Therefore, the test results will be much different. Also, if you get an extremely low value on the Choles-Trak, you probably did not put enough blood into the chamber or did not wait long enough for the results to finish. Cholesterol can raise and lower with just walking across a room, getting upset, being exposed to heat and on it goes. I use this test as a baseline and trust it very much. It is always very close to what my lab results show. You need to be consistent with preparation (fasting, etc) in order to compare. I do not have high cholesterol so I am using this as a monitor only. If I see changes, I would get lab testing done. All in all, it is a good product and with insurance deductibles like they are, I think it is a huge savings.

I've used this product and got a 150 count. I've also used a more sophisticated digital product givin to me by my sister-in-law and got the same results. Her results on her product were 250, the same count as her blood work done in the lab on the same day. She ran a test on her product before she went to the lab. 23 years ago my count was 259. I totally changed my diet (Vegan) and cholesterol dropped to 180 in three months. I had my blood work lab-tested year after year and it remained at 180, until the statin drugs hit the market. My cholesterol is now back to 259 according to Dr's lab results. We can only imagine how much money is being made on these drugs. I know for a fact Dr's are paid by the drug companies to push their products. My question is, are the lab numbers bumped up to improve sales? It's something to think about.

Cons: Inaccurate Results
Bottom Line: not recommended
My husband & I are late 30's in great health. We decided to try this as a cheaper alternative to seeing the Dr. for a basic cholesterol checkup. Results were excellent for both of us. Not a month later my husband saw his Dr. anyway for a checkup, and his Cholesterol was SKY HIGH! So high in fact they could not even complete all his tests (HDL, LDL, Trigylerides). He was in danger and immediately got treatment. NO THANKS to these lousy waste of money tests. I have to go see what mine REALLY is now!

I found this test to be very close to what my doctor ordered blood tests were. Wouldn't use it as a substitute for a yearly test, but for in between uses, I feel it's adequate and accurate.

This product is accurate as long as you do it after waking up on an empty stomach. Don't eat or drink and then test. Cholesterol can change dramatically during the day, depending on your diet. This was confimed by my doctor after I had varying results between readings and the lab test. Good luck to all.

I do not have any confidence in this product. Each time I used it, it showed low readings when in all actuality, readings were 50 - 60 points higher when blood work was done in a lab. It is a waste of money to buy this product.

A zero would be more appropriate. This device said 150. Doctor said 242. It is not accurate and borders on dangerous. For those who seek medical information to tailor their lifestyle, this device could lead you astray.

This test was 2 points lower than the doctor's test. Having insurance, there is no point in buying this item again, as I can get my cholesterol level pinpointed accurately by a blood test. Overall, not a bad product; however, I only trust my doctor to interpret my test results, so a test without interpretation is not worth the money.

I have purchased this kit twice for my own use and consistently got readings so low that they were below the scale included with the test, meaning I was around 100 at most. (I wish!!) I had my cholesterol professionally tested about 5 years ago and was around 150. My boyfriend was recently tested by a doctor and was at 240, although when giving blood monthly he is typically at 180. On this test he scored 150. I give only one star because the results are obviously not in the least bit accurate and I fear could make one with dangerously high levels think they are perfectly fine. I have zero confidence in this product and would give zero stars if I could.

Very easy to use and, in my case, accurate. It consistently gives readings almost identical to lab results (I'm tested annually). Very good way to progress of your diet/exercise/medication program.
