Murad Acne Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel rates 4 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.Works well as a preventative measure
by Ginchy[Verified Reviewer] in Charlotte, NC on 10/12/09
Pros: Easy To Use, Works Effectively
Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer
Best Uses: Blackheads & Whiteheads, Moderate Acne
Bottom Line: recommended
I first received this as a sample then finally broke down and bought it after trying less expensive products that did not work. I occasionally break out and have oily, mildly sensitive skin that doesn't respond well to harsh treatments (they make me break out worse). This works well to PREVENT acne before it starts. I use this daily and since using it my skin is clearer and I don't have blackheads anymore. This is not really meant to be a spot treatment and definitely won't clear existing pimples as fast as those types of products.
Murad Acne Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel rates 2 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.VERY drying
by anon[Verified Reviewer] in NYC on 6/29/09
Cons: Dries Out Skin, Ineffective, Irritates Skin
Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer
Bottom Line: not recommended
I don't know if I overapplied, but this product just completely dried out my skin. Too bad it didn't even do anything for my acne! Even if it works, it shouldn't be used during the day because It feels very sticky, and like most salicylic acid products, it has that burning, stinging feeling right after you apply it.
Murad Acne Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel rates 1 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.Harsh for Sensitive Skin

Cons: Dries Out Skin, Irritates Skin

Bottom Line: not recommended
This gel was much too harsh for my very sensitive skin. I have tried dozens of acne products over the last 15 years, so I am very aware that along with acne products comes a certain amount of drying, irritation and redness initially. This was on a whole different level - my skin was an angry, flaming red with an unsightly red rash from the severe irritation after using this product only a couple of times. There are better salicylic acid products out there. I do not recommend.
Murad Acne Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel rates 4 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.Good product but a little harsh

Pros: Easy To Use, Works Effectively
Cons: Irritates Skin
Best Uses: Adult Acne, Blackheads & Whiteheads, Inflammatory Acne, Moderate Acne
Bottom Line: recommended
I have moderate adult acne that turns cystic if I don't take very good care of it and treat at least twice a day. I also have moderately sensitive skin. The Murad kit is a good choice and can be used at night without bleaching your sheets. For me, it minimizes blackheads (doesn't get rid of them, especially on my nose and chin/jawline), eliminates most whiteheads, and prevents 90% of my cysts. The Exfoliating Treatment Gel does have a tendency to burn my skin for several minutes after application, especially if I use it immediately after exfoliating. When my acne gets away from me, I do have to return to AcneFree's cleanser and Repair Lotion in the daytime. Unfortunately, the AcneFree is very drying and tuns my skin red. Neither is a holy grail, but Murad's gel is the best daily treatment I've found.
Murad Acne Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel rates 4 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.Amazing gel

Pros: Easy To Use, Minimizes Pores, Works Effectively
Best Uses: Adult Acne, Moderate Acne, Severe Acne, Teen Acne
Bottom Line: recommended
I picked up the Murad acne line including this face wash, the toner, the exfoliating gel, the clay mask, and the lotion. I've been using them for 6 weeks now, and the overall texture of my skin is radiant and clear. I still have a few breakouts from high stress, but I really like this line. The lotion and clay masks are my favorites as they work better than any others I have ever found! However, I think some of the success is due to the fact that Murad does an excellent job with getting you into a routine. Every day and night I cleansed, toned, treated, and hydrated! So, due to the price, I think that if I stuck to a routine using drugstore brands, I could keep my face radiant and clear. I may keep the clay mask though since I wouldn't go through it as quickly. This gel certainly dries the skin out, but it's supposed to! You must follow with at least the lotion if not also the toner. I loved how this reduced pore size and helped clear oncoming acne.
Murad Acne Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.FINALLY, something that works

Pros: Easy To Use, Minimizes Pores, Works Effectively

Best Uses: Adult Acne
Bottom Line: recommended
I am 38 and have tried everything for my adult acne. I was so sick and tired of looking like a teenager. I finally tried the Murad system as pretty much the last acne system out there and wouldn't you know it, it WORKED. It's been over 2 months now and I've gotten maybe 2 new pimples total instead of a new one every 2-3 days. I agree this product doesn't smell the greatest, but I've gotten over it. It works and that's what matters. I use this twice a day with the cleanser. Make sure you lather with the cleanser for a good 30-60 seconds, I found that helps.

The key to this product is to follow directions. I have the most sensitive skin and I started with it only every other night for the first week, then every night for the second week, then morning and night for the third week. I know we all want to get rid of our acne as soon as possible, but moderation is the key. It also will get worse before it gets better, so don't be discouraged. This product works best for people whose skin is sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, like mine is. Works like a charm and I keep coming back for more!

Murad really has a great product line for treating acne. This product is no exception. Cleanse with the clarifying cleanser and treat with this product, then follow up with an oil free moisturizer. This treatment gel does leave the skin a little itchy but it goes away when you moisturize. As for the shine, I use a mattifying lotion to finish up so my skin is free of shine. Just give this product time because salicylic acid brings out acne under the skin before you will be completely clear. Great product- I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

I don't like this at all. It doesn't work for me because it made my skin feel itchy everytime I applied it on my face. It helps reduce acne, but it is too much time-consuming to use it 2-3 times daily. I prefer Murad Spot treatment.

I used the entire kit, as well for over 2 months and it made my acne SO MUCH WORSE. This product made my skin so much oilier than it already was) and did not help AT ALL. I think benzoyl peroxide-based products work for me... AcneFree has been doing me wonders! This line was a waste of money for me!
