Prilosec works the best for me as far as the proton pump inhibitors go - even the OTC version. Some people though apparently respond better to Prevacid, or to Nexium, neither of which are currently available over the counter, and both of which cost more. I get more side effects with both of them too, but that depends on the individual; that doesn't mean the drugs themselves are bad. Just don't give up - you don't have to live with chronic heartburn and/or GERD.

I have suffered from acid reflux for about 10 years now. I can finally say that I have it under control with this medication. It works better than anything else that I have tried. Tums, Rolads, Prevacid, and Nexum never worked this well!!!

This is horrible. I can't believe how duped I have been. I have had GERD for the past 11 years. I started taking Prilosec about 8 years ago after I got to the point of utter nausea every night after taking many antacid pills. Everything went well, and then here comes OTC. I noticed that my heartburn grew considerably worse after taking OTC but I figured it might just be my imagination. It has gotten so bad over the course of 4 months that I now am back to square 1 with my heartburn.

I went from Nexium to Prilosec OTC and I didn't notice any difference. My acid reflux is completely controlled without any breakthrough. And, since I don't have insurance coverage, this is much more affordable.
