We use these logs mid-season and at the end of wood burning season for our fireplace insert. The first time we used it, for at least a week after, pieces of hardened creosote fell back down into the fireplace from the chimney pipe. The first time I used one, I didn't know what to expect and was a little concerned when it went into the superheat part but, these logs really do a great job of cleaning.

I was unsure of the instructions, I stayed in the room I was not sure to keep the damper open the whole time burning. It got about 300 plus degrees didn't go any higher. Not much creosote at the end better to be safe than sorry. I guess the reason not much soot because I use seasoned wood. Trust me I was afraid at the start. Yes I will use it again. For a continues fire all winter you should clean every other month. That was the only clear instruction I got. There was a little smell.

Kinda works, but I still had to hire a chimney sweep. Nnot worth the money, even on sale. Made everything smell funky.

Instructions for use (see also inside box instructions for details)

Remove CSL from the box, but do NOT remove the paper cover. Place CSL into your fireplace or wood-stove. Light both ends with a match. For larger fireplaces or those with excessive creosote build-up, light a normal wood fire and wait until the flames die down. Then place CSL on the hot embers. DO NOT put CSL into a burning fire.
CSL will burn for approximately 90 minutes and will then smoke for several hours, Let CSL burn out completely. Leave any remains in the fireplace or wood-stove. The minerals in the remains will continue to be released and be reduced to ashes with the next fire.
The treatment will continue for 15 days. The creosote will be rendered less flammable and may begin to fall
Burning small fires over the next 15 days will continue to cause the creosote to become more brittle and break away from your chimney walls. The particles will either fall back into your fireplace or be lifted away during your next fires.
