Here are the pros and ... by Jennifer in Undisclosed on 5/21/05Here are the pros and cons of my first self-tanning experience:
Pros:
*smell is tolerable (strong, but not bad)
*easy to apply and dries quickly
*the first application is not super-dark
*if you just wash your hands immediately after your application with warm water and soap, you won't have tan palms Cons:
*I actually did have some streaking problems, but they weren't really noticeable since the tone difference wasn't too much. I also had some problems with having splotchy knees, which looked pretty weird afterwards. I exfoliated and applied lotion before applying the tanner. Hmmm, very weird. I'll just wear capris for awhile and try again later.
*The color is slightly orange, but it doesn't scream "fake tan". Tips: I've heard that feathering the tanner with a make-up sponge on your knees and elbows helps make it look more natural (the drier areas of your skin absorb more of the tanning lotion, so that's why those areas can become darker). Exfoliate and apply lotion to your joints, and good luck! :-)
This was my first self ... by Anonymous in Undisclosed on 5/7/05This was my first self tanner to try in probably 10 years. I am pleasantly surprised with the results. I have very fair skin and love the touch of color that one application leaves and the darker results of a second application. I did get a bit of a splotch in a hard to reach area because I didn't rub in well enough, but it came out with exfoliation and a second application. The color isn't orange at all on me and looks very natural
This was the first self ... by brandy in Undisclosed on 4/6/05This was the first self tanner I have ever tried, and overall, I would say that this product is average and "OK." I don't have a lot of patience, and I don't put on moisturizer first, so this product was a little too drying for my skin. It didn't streak, went on evenly, but was a little too orange for my taste. It dried really quickly and did not stain my clothes (like Coppertone). The smell is pretty strong but tolerable. I do prefer the L'Oreal Gelee to this, though, for quick and easy even color that leaves your skin like silk. You can also build your tan with it too if you want.
Ive tried other self ... by Anonymous in Undisclosed on 3/26/05Ive tried other self tanners before and was unhappy with the results; they left me an orangey tint and flaked off horribly so needless to say I was very hesitant to try a new tanner. I tried this based on reviews here and my friend had recently used it. I just bought it today and tested it on my torso first to see how it reacts. I have to say, at first it smells okay but not great and within 30mins it stinks, but is bearable. The color change is slight but you have to build it up, like in the name. I think this is a good sunless tanner for a first-timer whos hesitant and scared to turn orange. 4 stars only because it stinks after 30 minutes, but otherwise pretty good. I am satisfied.
Good stuff. This is the ... by Jenn in Undisclosed on 2/9/05Good stuff. This is the first self-tanning product I've used and so far, so GREAT! I am pretty fair with freckles, and one application of this product gives me an awesome tan. I don't even need to "build" the tan up. I've used it about 4 times so far and it lasts about 3 or 4 days per application, especially if you exfoliate first. It kinda stinks, but it goes away quickly. It also takes longer than 5 minutes to dry and feels sticky until you bathe...because of this, I apply it at midnight or so with a foam sponge, sleep for eight hours after allowing it to dry for a half an hour, and then wake up and shower. I'm left with a nice glow! Voila!
I am new at self tanning ... by Anonymous in Undisclosed on 12/24/04I am new at self tanning and I haven't tried very many products, so I decided to try this.
It left streaks all over my legs and arms and the color was orange! I am fair with an olive/gold undertone. I did 1 application and it looked like I had painted my self with an orange paint. I want others out there to know that this is a bad product. (If you are looking for a great self tanner, try Bain De Soleil tinted foam, it works great!)
For fair skin, it works ... by Holly in Brooklyn, NY on 10/5/04For fair skin, it works pretty well because the first layer makes you look not so blindingly white. About the third layer is a nice color.
As for streaks, I just rubbed it around a lot like I would a moisturizer. I also made sure to do that trick of putting regular moisturizer on my ankles, knees, elbows and all knuckles before starting. I had no streaking problems.
This is a good basic ... by Heidi in Royersford, PA on 8/12/04This is a good basic tanner. You need to rub this product in well and make sure you apply adequate amounts, or you will streak. Always rub with hands or gloves creamy with product, never slightly dry. I found that application every three days on fair skin gives you an even color. More often will make you darker. I did not experience any skin irritation. The smell is tolerable and lasts until your first shower.
I recently tried ... by Anonymous in Undisclosed on 8/6/04I recently tried Neutrogena build a tan and the following occurred:
-I had orange streaks on my hands, arms, back, and legs the next day -The smell was nice at first and then my skin smelt awful!
-My skin had an orange tint
I'm very disappointed.
I have tired several ... by Shirley in La Jolla, CA on 7/29/04I have tired several brands of self-tanners. I have fair skin. I find that this product has a pleasant odor and is easy to apply. You can control how dark you want to go, and the color is more natural than other tanners that smell bad and leave you too orange. Rub off is generally not too much of a problem as with other brands. If you are fair - give it a try.
