So I don't know what 's going on with sunblock these days but I think Martha is right about changes being made to sunblock with the addition of avobenzone. The last three weeks, each time I've gone to the beach I have gotten burnt and each time I've used a different sunblock and increased the SPF from 15 to 30 to now 50. I haven't gotten burnt in the last 5 years due to religious sunblock usage. It is ridiculous with SPF 50 to be as lobster red as my body is. The worst part is I didn't even feel like I was burning, at least without sunblock you feel like you're burning. My brother and I laid out in the sun today for a good 4 hours and reapplied this stuff 3 times and still came home with BURNT skin.

Goes on pretty well. I live in a hot, humid, sunny climate (during the summer months) and this stuff goes on pretty well, runs a little bit on my arms but not so much on the face, though I find it necessary to wipe off the excess around my eyes before I start on a run or it does run into my eyes. Doesn't feel heavy or greasy...for a sunscreen

I've used Banana Boat sports sunscreens for years, and also Faces Plus on a daily basis, because they were the best sunscreen products out there in long-lasting protection. Now, Banana Boat and other sunscreen manufacturers have changed their formulations to something they claim is more protective. Nonsense! The new products with avobenzene will (1) stain your whites yellow (I can't remove it even through bleaching); (2) avobenzene breaks down very quickly in the sun, and loses its protective ability (I'm out in the sun with sports for many hours, and it is not convenient to continually reapply every hour. So I've gotten burns with the new product, where I never did with the old.); and (3) stings my skin and eyes. This is a far inferior product to the previous. I found a store that still had a few of the earlier formulation left and bought up the lot. Most stores no longer have the old formulation in stock, and other brands have also made the switch to avobenzene or similar formulation with the same problems (I know -- I've tried many in the last few months, and have a lot of yellowed t-shirts to show for it.) I've tried to find Faces Plus for everyday use on my face, but I can't find anyplace that still stocks it. BRING BACK the old reliable formulation!

I like to lie on the beach, but have sun allergy. Despite this I use to go to the beach and the last summer after one application of Banana Boat and lots of sun exposure I was OK, without any allergy and burn.

This stuff is great! I have combination skin (oily in some areas, dry in others) and this sunblock works great on it. I haven't experienced any break out from it. I also like the fact that it is basically odorless, or at least lacks the usually overwhelming scent. This stuff stays on great in the pool BUT does not stay on very long if you are in the ocean (salty water) so you must reapply often! Other than that I'm satisfied with this product.

Besides the high spf this is the one sport lotion that I found to NOT smell bad. I use it as an everyday lotion all summer long.

This was a good value and I didn't get burned, but I'm still not very impressed. After all, I'm not easily burned anyway. My biggest complaint would be that it certainly is NOT "non-greasy". I will use Coppertone from now on, because many of its products really ARE non-greasy because they are oil-free!

Even a sport block can get in your eyes if you put it on too thickly or put a second coat directly on top of the first. I usually use Coppertone Sport 30 and have had no problems. I used this Banana Boat block and got some in my eyes after reapplication. Since I have done so many times before with the Coppertone, I didn't worry. It was the worst day of my life. My eyes stung so badly that eventually I could not keep them open and had to be led home. It was not pleasant. I'm not sure whether to blame this on the brand (another friend complained of stinging on a prior occasion) or the SPF. Either way, be careful with the Banana Boat 50. Also, this is much thicker and harder to rub in than the Coppertone 30. Again, it's hard to say whether that is due to the brand or the SPF. On a more positive note, I did not burn despite a long day in the hot desert sun.

I really appreciate this. I just got burned four times using Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer 45, so I appreciate this more now. The Neutrogena failed after less than an hour of normal exposure. I've used this Banana Boat 50 for many years of serious hardcore exposure: long days on the sea, glaciers, fourteen thousand foot summits, and multiple weeks of day after day wilderness and snow exposure. As long as I used it, I never got burned, not even a little. Sometimes it froze solid, and it does burn the eyes, but you'll figure it out. After using this, I just figured that other brands worked too. I got burned.
