Bottom Line: recommended

Use DISTILLED WATER to keep your steamer running for years. When I used tap water with two of my steamers they stopped working. I realized the key to longevity was using distilled water in the unit. Hope this helps.

I have had a set of Carusos for about twenty five years. I loved them then and I love them now. I had very thick hair in my teens, but because of stress and weight loss I have had a large hair loss. With this system it doesn't matter it works wonderfully with both types of hair. It is so much better for your hair. You can let your hair dry in the evening and put these in the morning. You can also dry your hair with a dryer in the morning, fully, and then use them. I only leave them in for about five minutes or less to get a nice wave. I have one complaint. I wore out my first set after twenty years of use. I purchased a new set and it didn't last six months. I was devastated and desperate. I found an old set at a garage sale, Praise God, and I am serious. There is nothing out there like these systems. I hope the company takes notice and fixes the problems with the new set. I would invest in another if they fixed the problem.

I bought this hair setting system because of the great reviews. I have found it extremely difficult to use. Timing of the steaming for the rollers is hard to judge, and it takes forever (not 15 minutes) for them to dry-if they dry at all (and I live in a dry desert). It leaves lines in the hair from the roller covers. Also I could not get more large size rollers after three tries through [...] as the correct box had jumbo large rollers every time.This will be in my next garage sale-too bad I can't return it.

I have been using the Caruso steam curlers for almost twenty years, and would never use anything else. The key to getting great results though is that your hair has to be completely dry before you use it. My hair is quite porous, so it's difficult to get it dry enough right after I wash my hair to be able to successfully curl it. It is better if I use it later in the day after all the moisture from my morning wash has evaporated. If hair is even a tiny bit damp, the curls won't set or hold as well... although you can still get some nice waves, condition your hair with the moisture from the steam, and tame any frizzies. If you can't wait, dry your hair as much as possible, and then use your blow dryer on your hair for a few minutes while you have the curlers in your hair. Also, the curler should be damp but not overly wet before you put them in. I usually set a roller on the steamer while I prepare a section of hair to be curled. By the time the section is ready, the curler is appropriately moist. (Probably 5-7 seconds or so.) After taking the rollers out, let your curls cool for a couple minutes before either styling with your fingers for tighter curls, or brushing for slightly looser waves. The Caruso Molecular Steam Hairsetter will moisturize your locks and keep your hair in amazing condition. And if you follow the advice above, you should be able to get beautiful, lasting curls in even straight, curl-resistant hair.

I had the original "Happy Traveler" Caruso Molecular set 15 years ago in high school. After five years or so of daily use, it quit on me, and I was never able to find another until now. Now I am back to my old routine, and my hair is back to being full and soft again without the harmful effects you find with other heating products. The quick set curl lasts all day.

The main problem is that my hair just didn't curl. The different sized rollers were so close in size that it was hard to choose the right size clamp for each. The clamps did not hold the curls firmly. The curlers have to be heated one at a time. There is no storage arrangement for the curlers. Really this system is a mess.

I have long, fine, thick, damaged color treated hair. Previously curly hair turned into frizzy dry mess due to damage and regular hot curlers just made it worse. I now use Hennalucent Neutral and these rollers. My hair is now in much better condition, the curls last for days and don't damage my hair. Only thing I don't like is it takes twice as long to roll and set the curl (thick hair & steam to dry) but the results are absolutely worth it. I'll never go back to non steam hot rollers again. Love this product and highly recommend.

I have to say, I've been using these since the first infomercial came out. My hair never held curl before Caruso. Today, I introduced my youngest friend to these miraculous curlers. Her first Homecoming Dance is very soon. . .it warmed the cockles of my heart to show her how easy it is to acheive gorgeous curls. She just lit up when she saw how luscious her thick hair can be. "I know how I want my hair for the dance!" What a beautiful thing to hear. And I'm so glad that I got to share this with her. Ordering more curlers as I type this. Blessed BE! I've also been using these since the 80s and LOVE THEM! The set holds for two days for me. I set them on the first day and then comb through the second day and it looks great. I have fine hair that has some natural wave. It doesn't hold a style in humidity with any other product.For those who have had problems or want to prevent problems: as another reviewer said, your hair has to be bone dry before you set it. Not even a little dampness remaining. I wash and dry at night, or wash and air dry all day and use the Caruso Molecular rollers in the early evening before going out.Also, once the rollers are in, they have to be totally dry to be set. If you're in a rush, hit them with your blowdryer. I aim the dryer from the top over the shields and then gently lift each roller and give them a shot of air from the bottom. Then, let them cool a few moments and take the rollers out.As for the shields leaving marks, that's a barrier that you can finesse with the right rolling technique or by clips. You roll the shield back from the root of the hair and then secure the roller with a little metal clip through one of the open holes on the end of the roller. Or use the Conair plastic roller clips [...]

I had 2 old sets with the salt and wore them out. I have very thick hair, and the shiny curls lasted for days. The new style without the salt burnt out in 3 weeks! Hopefully, after reading these reviews it was "a bad batch". Mr. Caruso, if youre listening- You owe me. I am going to try AGAIN
