I've been suffering from adult acne + dry skin for the past several years, and have tried all kinds of natural remedies including coconut oil, tea tree oil wash, nothing (literally leaving my skin alone except to remove make-up at night), and Yes To Carrots acne system (active ingredient: salicylic acid). Nothing worked. Exasperated, I was going to go back to Proactiv (which worked for me in college), but I hate their billing practices, so instead I researched to find a comparable over-the-counter version. This was the one I landed on, and FINALLY, it works!!

I can't use it exactly as directed, because it dries my face out. Instead, I use the face wash (salicylic acid) + oil-free lotion in the morning, and at night I use makeup remover + acne-control lotion (benzoyl peroxide) only on the spots that need it. This worked surprisingly fast to clear up my skin, and doesn't dry it out.

I am in my early 30's and developed acne on my right cheek only. I can't get rid of it at all. Proactiv has worked in the past but I didn't feel like dealing with canceling memberships and being overcharged. I tried this product. First week, it was great. After that it all went down hill. I kept getting more break outs. I stopped using the acne control lotion (as recommended on other reviews) and the breakouts somewhat faded. The original acne never went away though, I did love the moisturizer though.

I've used benz peroxide for years and it's gotten rid of my acne tho I do have occasional bumps so I used this before bed one night. I just woke up to pretty much severe chemical burns all over my face. Mostly my chin where I applied the acne lotion. I don't generally have sensitive skin but I'm outraged and in horrible pain.

It seemed to work well on my face for awhile. I found the cleanser and the treatment drying, but the sunscreen and regular moisturizing lotion helped that. I really liked the sunscreen--smelled great and very moisturizing. The treatment cream was too thick and a little hard to spread, so it got used up too fast.

Unfortunately, my facial acne came back pretty badly after about a month or two and I had to switch back to proactiv, which seems to be the only thing that works for me. (I have hormonal adult acne, mainly around the chin, sometimes in other places.)
However, I started using the cleanser on my back, and it really helped with the acne there--not completely gone, but much improved.
If it works for you, it's great because it's about half the price of proactiv.

I have purchased this kit 3 times now, and will not do so again. The fact that you can not buy the products separately has turned out to be a deal-breaker.

If I evaulated the products individually:

- Skin Polishing Acne Cleanser - One star. Unusuable for me. Even aside from the fact that it gives me zits, I didn't care for the product. It doesn't leave a clean feeling, and there is so little exfoliant in it that it's useless as a scrub. It would get one star from me.

- Acne Control Lotion - 5 Stars. Exceptionally good product. This is the best benzoyl peroxide product that I have used. I get the best results from benzoyl peroxide lotions when I apply them lightly over the acne-prone area daily. A lower concentration of BP in a non-irritating base is best for this, and this product is ideal. I would very much like to continue using this product, but it's not available individually.

- Oil-Free Lotion - 5 Stars. Excellent. It works well and there's nothing annoying about it. There are other good acne control moisturizers out there, but this is as good as any I've tried, and I'd buy it individually if I could. 5 stars.

So how do two 5-star ratings and a 1-star rating result in an overall rating of only 2 stars?

The problem is two-fold. First, I can use only two of the three products, so buying the whole kit is a waste of money and resources. I don't like being shanghaied into buying stuff I don't want. Second, even if I did like all three products, they do not run out at even close to the same time. I guess I use a lot less moisturizer and a lot more face wash than whatever Neutrogena has determined is average, but I don't like being forced to buy yet another tube of moisturizer that I don't need just to replace the products that are running out. I could maybe justify buying the whole kit and just using two products, except that I have such a surplus of moisturizer at this point that I'd really only be buying the kit for the acne control lotion. This all has left me with a really sour feeling about the kit and the brand.

Does Neutrogena sell the products only as a kit as a way to get people to buy more products than they would otherwise? It certainly seems like it. They really don't need to resort to such tactics, and it makes me think less of them.

(All will be forgiven if they make the Acne Control Lotion available individually!)

Hello, I am an esthetician and I was using professional products and I started to have hormonal adult acne after age 29. as an esthetician I tried everything from chemical peels, expensive masks to microdermabrasian and nothing was working. So I decided to quit all the products and make up I was using. I changed my diet cut fries, coke chips and started to try products one by one. I was devastating until I found neutregena acne system. It really works i have no acne at all since one year now. I use cleanser, topical cream and spot treatment cream daily and consistently. I am not using the spf cream because for some reason it makes my acne came back, so I use another brand oil free moisturizer as spf cream. cons are if you stop using it even one day my acne started to come back so you need to be consistent and use twice a day. Even though I have a professional line that I sell I recommend this product to my acne clients.

I've been using this product for about 2 weeks day and night. My face has cleared up so much. It does dry your face out a little but I just use more face moisterizer.

Great product and does the trick QUICKLY! My skin cleared up in less than 5 days. But, be careful because it does dry up your skin quickly. Just switch to a more gentle formula and moisturizers after your blemishes are gone to hydrate.
