so far so good.... by Linsey in Lyndonville, VT on 3/5/09Pros: Minimizes Pores, Non-greasy moisture, Soothing, Tackles acne quickly, Works Effectively Cons: Dries Out Skin, Thick consistency Describe Yourself: Budget Buyer Best Uses: Blackheads & Whiteheads, Inflammatory Acne Bottom Line: recommended I've had acne since I was 12 years old, and I am now 20 years of age. I tried proactiv and it worked well.. but it seemed as though my skin gradually became immune to it. I've been using neutrogena for about a week now, and the pain of my acne went away quickly. A lot of my breakouts are already under control. I've also been using the Rapid Clear Fight and Fade gel at night.. it does wonders on scars. I'm sure that if I skipped one night or morning routine, my face would have a major breakout, but you'd probably get that with any treatment. The consistency of the face wash is very thick and gooey, you have to keep it under control and try not to drop it.. but once it's on your face it's okay. The night cream made my face dry out and flake.. but the moisturizer in the morning does help.be careful with your bedding or collars.. I think it does bleach fabric.overall, this is a good buy! of course, this will not work for everyone. [...] half the price of proactiv, definitely worth it.
It works! but it depends of your skin by Brazilian Girl in edinburg, va on 2/28/09Pros: Easy To Use, Minimizes Pores, Soothing, Works Effectively Cons: Dries Out Skin Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer Best Uses: Adult Acne, Blackheads & Whiteheads Bottom Line: recommended On the first day that I used this product it made my skin absolutely gourgeus... I was having a bad break out and it seems to heal, renew and dry away the acne...
But for me it can't be used daily or dries my skin too much. I like to alternate using once every other day and if I feel that the skin is dring I combine with a light moisturizer after the acne control lotion dries out.
WORKED BETTER THAN PRO-ACTIVE! by Frostette in Wichita, Kansas on 2/13/09Pros: Easy To Use, Works Effectively Describe Yourself: Budget Buyer Best Uses: Moderate Acne Bottom Line: recommended My teen son's acne was getting worse and Pro-active, while clearing up most of it, didn't get rid of all of it like the advertising made me believe. I wasn't willing to pay those prices for something that didn't do a complete job. I decided to try Neutrogena and now his skin, although not perfect, looks great. I assume any pimples he does get now is because of eating too much sweets or not cleaning his face properly.
A MIRACLE!!! by Mrs. Very-Pleased in Florida on 2/12/09Pros: Easy To Use, Evens out skin tone, Great under makeup, Hydrates Skin, Soothing, Works Effectively Cons: Irritates Skin Describe Yourself: Budget Buyer Best Uses: Adult Acne, Moderate Acne Bottom Line: recommended I have terrible skin! Super oily, HUGE pores, scares from acne, uneven skin tones, and always broken out!
Since puberty I have never had CLEAR skin! I¿ve tired, clean and clear, Clinique, Murad, Retin-A, Clearasil, proactiv, home remedies (tea tree oil), birth control and have never been able to completely eliminate break outs! I¿ve used Neutrogena products in the past but have never experience results like this.
Within, the first day I notice that the care system really helped to control my oiliness, day three I had 50% of my acne gone and after 5 days 100% clear skin! One month now of using the Neutrogena three step system and my skin is clear and has a developed into an even skin tone.
It is wonderful to wear under makeup. And for the price you can not beat that.
Only con:
At the 2nd week I noticed that skin at the corners of my nose were a bit irritated. So I just don¿t apply the acne gel there, and the problem was solved.
tried for 6 weeks, broke out worse by Julia in Baltimore on 1/24/09Cons: Dries Out Skin, Ineffective Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer Bottom Line: not recommended When you have acne and you've got a regimen that works for you at least somewhat well, IT IS VERY RISKY TO TRY SOMETHING NEW. (The odds of finding a new product that will make your skin completely clear and perfect is just.... rare.)
I came off of Proactive to give something new a try. I used this set once to twice a day (depending on how dried out my skin felt because of it!). Before this, I had a couple pimples here and there, but after a week and a half of trying this, I was breaking out all over my face... This time with deep, painful red blemishes that are so deep under the skin you can't pop them. I was so embarrassed, I've never felt uglier. I kept with the product for a month, and was gentle with my skin - giving the product & my skin some time to take course. It never came down from being inflamed, red and dried out! After 6 weeks, I stopped. It took another few weeks on Proactive to clear up to normal looking skin again.
Horrible! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Terrible reaction! by Busy college student in Washington, DC on 1/13/09Cons: Dries Out Skin, Ineffective, Irritates Skin Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer Bottom Line: not recommended I had been using a neutrogena cleanser with a small amount of salicylic acid and a clean n' clear facial moisturizer with the acid as well and my face was still getting oily and breaking out. So I decided to bump it up and try this system. Instead I got a terrible reaction on my skin within 3 days of careful use! It looks like I have hives on my skin, and it is more embarrassing than have a few pimples because now my previously fairly smooth skin is now covered in these bumps! Hope they go away soon and I will be trashing this terrible product for some all natural products. Don't risk your skin with this system!!!
Be patient, acne doesn't clear overnight by Ms. Fussy in NY, NY on 1/8/09Pros: Works Effectively Cons: Dries Out Skin Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer Best Uses: Adult Acne, Blackheads & Whiteheads, Inflammatory Acne, Moderate Acne, Teen Acne Bottom Line: recommended After reading all 100-something reviews about this product, I decided to purchase it. I have tried many many remedies for my adult/hormonal acne, none of which have ever worked 100%.
It is important to realize that with any treatment regimen, your face will get worse before it gets better. This is due to impurities trapped beneath the surface being drawn out and cleared.
Second important note, a little goes a long way! DO NOT slather your skin in the night-time treatment, a pea-sized amount or smaller is sufficient and will save you the flaky, peely skin problems.
Within 3 days of using this product, my skin was more even-toned and my existing acne was noticeably improved.
2 weeks into using the product I had a couple new pimples, but nothing worse than what I had previously experienced. At this time my skin was also starting to dry out from the night time treatment, so I reduced application to every other day (as per the directions). The dryness resolved within a few days. The moisturizer (containing SPF, total bonus) worked well to combat the dryness. Again, be patient.
I have now been using this product for about 6 weeks and my face is clear. Granted, the marks from the acne will take months to heal, but the tone of my skin has noticeably improved, and friends have been remarking how nice my face looks- even without makeup.
I plan on purchasing another set when this one runs out (the box states it should last about 2 months, which seems on target) to maintain my clear, healthy skin. Try this product, you will (probably) not be disappointed!
Cleanser is great, other 2 are trash. by Emily in Maryland on 12/6/08Pros: Easy To Use, Hydrates Skin, Works Effectively Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer Bottom Line: recommended This product's cleanser is by far the best I have used so far. I unfortunately had to stop using the system however because I was throwing out the other two bottles immediately.
The "night" cream has benzoyl peroxide in it, which I have decided my sensitive skin just can't handle, no matter how gentle a product declares it to be.
The moisturizer is by far the worst part about this product. It caused my skin, which usually has fairly mild but very annoying red pimples, to suddenly gain several large lumps that took several months for me to recover from.
Ultimately, the cleanser was AMAZING, but the other two bottles are next to useless.
Not for Sensitve Skinned Adults by Elle in Illinois on 11/20/08Cons: Dries Out Skin, Irritates Skin Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer Best Uses: Teen Acne Bottom Line: not recommended I have sensitive skin. When I used the medicated night portion, it dried out my skin. I used a mosturizer and an eye serum. Combing the eye serum with this system resulting in me getting a chemical burn.
Also the medicated night portion felt like spreading glue on my face as it felt like it just wanted to stick in one spot and not spread out.
Not my favorite from Neutrogena by Quick Pick in San Luis Obispo, CA on 11/16/08Pros: Gentle, Hydrates Skin Cons: Ineffective Describe Yourself: Budget Buyer Bottom Line: not recommended I did not feel like this system was strong enough to attack my moderate acne. I'm a 'picker' and this did not cause my pimples to dry out and heal quickly. The night lotion has a low benzoyl peroxide ratio, and the day lotion does not have an active ingredient (but does have spf). Both lotions caused my face to be more greasy. The face wash is very mild and smooth compared to other acne face washes. I think the company describes it as 'polishing'. This might be appropriate for young teens, who do not have evident acne but need to start a clensing routine. For people who do have acne, I really enjoy Neutrogena's "Rapid Clear" line, I found it very effective!
