Pureology ColourMax rates 2 out of 5 stars, from 15 customer reviews. Can't Get Past the Smell
by LAShopperGirl[Verified Reviewer] in Los Angeles, CA on 9/14/09
Pros: Gentle
Cons: Ineffective, Smells Bad
Describe Yourself: Product Junkie
Best Uses: Daily Use
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: not recommended
I'm sorry, but this stuff does not smell good. It smells like perm solution from the 80s. For [$] a bottle, they should be able to work on that. As for how it works, it definitely is not doing anything to defrizz my straight, dry hair. Will it protect the color? We shall see, but it hardly matters because I could never bring myself to buy this product again.
Pureology ColourMax rates 4 out of 5 stars, from 15 customer reviews.Doesn't weight down hair.
by UtahGal[Verified Buyer] in SLC, Ut on 7/29/09
Pros: Gentle, Great Smell, Smooths & Softens
Cons: Too Light
Describe Yourself: Product Junkie
Best Uses: Daily Use, Fine Hair
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
It softens but I found myself needing to add a bit more styling oil to get get the shine I wanted. Overall it's great if you are worried about weighing your hair down. Makes hair easy to comb and very manageable when damp.

by br350[Verified Reviewer] in Boston,MA on 4/15/09
Pros: Great Smell, Smooths & Softens
Cons: Leaves Residue, Too Heavy
Describe Yourself: Beauty Conscious
Best Uses: Curly Hair, Thick Hair
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: not recommended
I wanted this for UV protection but found it was simply too heavy. The spray comes out very strong (not a fine mist) and it is easy to use too much. It smells VERY strong, like most of the Pureology line, so if you don't like a very strong herbal scent, beware. My biggest beef is that it weighed down my fine hair and almost made it sort of tacky and limp. It is probably very HEALTHY for the hair but I would recommend this only for those with thicker, dry hair. It really did not do much for me.

by Mother of a free spirited two year old[Verified Buyer] in military overseas on 4/7/09
Pros: Adds Shine, Gentle, Improves Hair Health, Improves Texture, Smooths & Softens
Cons: Smell is a bit heavy
Describe Yourself: Beauty Conscious
Best Uses: Colored hair, Daily Use, Fine Hair, Thick Hair
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
I bought this hoping to replace the Matrix instacure that I have been using...among others that I have tried but don't give me just what I wanted. This product makes my hair softer and more managable (after styling). I am also able to comb thru my hair with ease. The smell is a little heavy but does wear off and does not smell bad...it smells actually good...just a little heavy on the scent. I think I have found my new favorite leave in conditioner. I have medium hair that is very soft. I also dye my hair a lot. I am a natural blonde but now have brown with soft brown highlights and it does make my hair feel very soft without weighing it down.
Pureology ColourMax rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 15 customer reviews.Leaves my hair soft with no residue
by Goldilocks[Verified Buyer] in Huntington Beach, CA on 2/16/09
Pros: Adds Shine, Gentle, Great Smell, Smooths & Softens
Describe Yourself: Beauty Conscious
Best Uses: Curly Hair, Daily Use, Fine Hair
Hair Type: Wavy Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
I love this product and I love the way it smells. It doesn't leave a sticky or greasy residue, just clean, soft hair that holds its color and looks way better than it used to. I shampoo every other day and use this after shampooing. I don't use it on the days where I deep condition or just rinse my hair to style. The only thing I don't like about the product is that the bottle is really tall -- and even though there's a lock on the spray top, I don't trust it...so it stays home when I'm traveling.

As a service member, there are a number of things that cause our hair lots of damage. 1.) Tight bun styling 2.) Wearing heavy Kevlar and 3.) DEPLOYING! As if the climate and moon-dusty sand weren't enough, the chemicals used in the treatment of the shower water are used in high concentration. My hair is also colored and I dont color it while deployed. Once, I had to cut three inches off my ends because they were not holding water at all. I cut them and continued to use Biolage and Redken Shampoos and Conditioner (which are wonderful) out there. I'd have to say that adding this leave-in was a lIFE-SAVER for my hair! It is worth every penny... its too bad pennies is all I make because I would own a shed full of this and they couldnt make enough to meet MY demand!! P.S. It smells AMAZING!

This is probably my perfect conditioner. The Fekkai Protein Rx Conditioner I once loved so dearly was starting to cause a little breakout on my back (ewwww!) as it rinsed out. Pureology Colourmax is a leave-in spray, so there's none of that ugly business. I don't even color my hair anymore, but I still use it because it smells divine, and makes my hair very soft and easy to work with.

A wonderful product - especially for fine, color-treated hair. It helps prevent color fading, and leaves my hair soft.
