My clothes and towels come out softer than with other detergents and just as clean but I'm not in love with the smell. It doesn't smell bad, just not the wonderful citrus smell described. The smell is so weak that you will hardly notice it either way but I love that fresh laundry smell and this doesn't do it. It doesn't give my kids a rash like some detergents do and it works especially great for cloth diapers- they come out without stains or urine smell and I don't rinse them in cold first since I rinse them before they go in the bucket.

I have used this detergent for 9 years. I have both a front loader and a top loader and it works well in both. I have noticed that it doesn't dissolve well in cold water, but it gets out stains very well in warm and hot. I use it mainly for whites, light colors, sheets, and towels and use Seventh Generation liquid or Ecos liquid for things I wash in cold. This system seems to work very well for me. One thing about Biokleen is that if you forget and leave your clothes in the washer, they won't mildew because of the grapefruit seed extract in the detergent.

It really gets my laundry clean, without a strong perfumy smell. My husband's skin is very sensitive to most laundry detergents, so I was glad to find one that cleans naturally, using enzymes, without chemicals or fragrances that would bother his skin.

I am surprised at all of the negative comments on this product. We are on very hard well water with a softener. I have used it for years and have never noticed a waxy build-up, dulling, etc. on either the machine (top load) or clothing. What I did notice was when I switched to the BIo-Kleen cold water liquid because it was cheaper, my whites didn't come out very clean all all. Laundry 101 - first of all, you cannot stuff clothes into a top-load until there is no room for them to move and float in the water. Second, it is a bit difficult to dissolve. To solve that problem I put two tablespoons into a plastic measuring cup I keep at the machine. As the machine is filling, I let the cup fill a bit, swish and pour it into the tub under the running water. Then I start loading the clothes in. I have yet to find a crusty piece left over by this method. Third, for those of you using a scoop, you're using WAY TOO MUCH SOAP. I use 1 level dry tablespoon measure for 1/2 load and 2 tablespoons for a full load and I have a large capacity machine. On whites, I use hot water, extra long cycle and 2 tablespoons of the Bio-Kleen non chlorine bleach and they come out beautifully. If I have the time, I hang the whites out on the line to finish in the sun. This soap has been a life saver for me. Somewhere along the line I became chemically sensitized and everything made me break out. If you were unhappy with the soap, I would respectfully ask you to try it again, just use less of it. I would imagine that with a front-load machine, 1 tablespoon would do. But I guarantee that the scoop that comes with the product is more than 2 tablespoons, which is what the box says. On diapers, if you're worried about absorbing, I would use 1/2 cup white vinegar in the rinse (unless your machine states otherwise). We have 7 dogs in the house and have a lot of accidents. This really cuts the urine smell. I wash a lot of sheets that cover the furniture, towels that clean up messes and yes, we do have some serious accidents with the dogs. It all cleans up!! I also do not worry so much about bacteria in the laundry, because I have faith in those little enzymes that they will eat the bad boys up. In my humble opinion, this company has struck a perfect balance between keeping a business going and providing a product that doesn't pollute the earth, isn't animal tested or contain animal products. We had an elderly friend who had colon cancer and she would often mess her underwear. I wish now I had discovered this soap in those days, because Tide didn't do a bit of good!

At first, I loved this detergent. The scent was very subtle and it seemed to get my clothing as clean as Tide did. Over time, however, I noticed many of my cotton garments looking pill-y and faded. Also, my towels and sheets were feeling strange--kind of waxy. It turns out this detergent was building up on everything. Even the window on my front-loader was filmed over. I switched to another detergent, one that is not supposed to have any build up and my clothes are finally beginning to look right again. It's taken a long time to get the Bi-O-Kleen out of them. I know my water chemistry (very soft) is partly to blame for this, so this probably is not a problem for everyone, but be aware that this could happen with this detergent.

I just love this detergent! It does a great job of removing pet odors - even cat urine! Just a scoop with hot water and even my sensitive nose is pleased. I also value the natural ingredients and no animal testing. Great product!

This stuff ROCKS! My sensitive skin in in heaven. It cleans as well as,if not better than, any of the big brands, but the scent isn't overpowering, and my skin doesn't itch. Give it a try and you won't be sorry!

This laundry soap does not dissolve well in cold water, nor remove stains! It is pointless to talk about keeping the earth clean while the soap does not even keep your clothes clean.

This did not work for me. First I noticed stains that weren't coming out of my clothes that I didn't notice before. The only way I could get clothes cleaner was to use two scoops (which would be very expensive over time). Maybe it's my water; I don't know.

One tiny scoop of Bi-O-Kleen works better than any eco-cleanser or toxic detergent. There are no powder bits still clinging to your clothes after the rinse. And the citrus smell doesn't overpower with a chemical perfume. Asthmatics can now breathe. The Bi-O-Kleen Cleaner/Degreaser (not the soy one, but the original) is the BEST! I use it for laundry, hair, dishes - EVERYTHING. It's gentle, but it really DEGREASES!
