Use the vicks cool mist humidifier in sons room to help him breath better at night. This is a necessary filter, but with our hard water the filter changes color and will start to smell when used. However, if you remove water and clean the filter with just water or baking soda and water and let dry you can prolong its life... so thankfully it is durable. Overall good product and necessary.
