Chemical Name: QUINIDINE SULFATE (KWIN-i-deen SULL-fate)
Quinidine Sulfate 300mg is an anti-arrhythmic used to treat an irregular heartbeat.
WARNING: Quinidine Sulfate 300mg sometimes produces new irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias). Therefore, it should be used in carefully selected patients. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Quinidine Sulfate 300mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg if you are also taking codeine, cisapride, astemizole, terfenadine, ritonavir, grepafloxacin, sparfloxacin, or medicine for myasthenia gravis. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amiloride, amiodarone, antacids, anticoagulants, cimetidine, digitoxin, digoxin, macrolide antibiotics, rifampin, urinary alkalinizers (such as sodium bicarbonate), verapamil, or medicines for high blood pressure (beta blockers), seizures, or sleep problems. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of heart block. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Quinidine Sulfate 300mg.
Follow the directions for using Quinidine Sulfate 300mg provided by your doctor. IT IS BEST TO TAKE QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg ON AN EMPTY STOMACH at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. TAKE QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg WITH A FULL GLASS (8 oz./240 ml) OF WATER. DO NOT LIE DOWN for 30 minutes after taking Quinidine Sulfate 300mg. AVOID EATING GRAPEFRUIT OR DRINKING GRAPEFRUIT JUICE while taking Quinidine Sulfate 300mg. STORE QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg, take it if you remember within 2 hours. If it is more than 2 hours since your missed dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg without checking with your doctor. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Quinidine Sulfate 300mg. QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg MAY CAUSE dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Quinidine Sulfate 300mg. TAKING ANTACIDS REGULARLY MAY INCREASE THE RISK of Quinidine Sulfate 300mg's side effects. If you take antacids regularly, check with your doctor before taking them with Quinidine Sulfate 300mg. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Quinidine Sulfate 300mg during pregnancy. QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Quinidine Sulfate 300mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, or blurred vision. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience rash, headache, lightheadedness or dizziness, irregular heartbeat, fast or slow heartbeat, or ringing in ears. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose include trouble breathing, trouble walking, vomiting, diarrhea, ringing in the ears, headache, dizziness, disturbed vision, and nausea.
DO NOT SHARE QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg for other health conditions. KEEP QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg out of the reach of children. IF USING QUINIDINE SULFATE 300mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
