The Journal of the American Medical Association Advises All Adults to
Take A Multivitamin Once A Day to Reduce the Risk of Many Chronic Diseases.

WHAT: In a major new development recognizing the importance of
multivitamins for good health, the Journal of the American Medical
Association (JAMA) released a landmark recommendation today that all adults should take a multivitamin each day in addition to eating a healthy diet, to make sure they get the optimal amount of vitamins and minerals. With the scientific understanding of vitamins increasing significantly in the past two decades, JAMA has published a broad review of vitamins and their effect on overall health and disease prevention. This new health recommendation makes choosing a multivitamin an important part of a healthy lifestyle. The One-A-Day line of multivitamins is a good example of specially designed and tailored formulas that answer JAMA's new position.

WHY: Almost 80% of Americans do not receive the recommended five daily servings of fruits and vegetables that would provide sufficient amounts of key vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy diet.
Recent evidence has shown that these suboptimal levels can be risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. Evidence has also shown that the benefits associated with taking supplemental vitamins and minerals -- typically found in a multivitamin -- can help reduce the risk of many of these diseases.

Because the new JAMA guidelines include specific recommendations for men and women, consumers need to take care in choosing the proper multivitamin. The choice should be tailored to specific health needs and achieve appropriate nutrient levels. A good example is One-A-Day's targeted line of multivitamins that is designed specially for individual needs.

  • Because women today are concerned about osteoporosis, One-A-Day Women's formula promotes good bone density in women. It contains the right amount of vitamin A plus bone-building nutrients that women need, including calcium -- more than any other branded multivitamin. It also contains 100% of the recommended daily amount of folic acid, which can reduce the risk of certain birth defects.
  • Because men are more concerned with their prostate health, One-A-Day Men's Health Formula supports prostate health. It includes 22 key vitamins and minerals needed by men age 35 and older. It contains lycopene -- an antioxidant found in fruits and vegetables – which has been linked to a reduction in prostate cancer, as well as zinc, selenium and Vitamin E that support prostate health.
  • The One-A-Day Today formula is specially designed for active women 50 and over. It supports cardiovascular health by combining soy with vitamins C, E, B6 and B12, and is the only leading multivitamin to do so.
