By blocking calcium, Cardizem LA causes the blood vessels to relax and widen. This can help to lower blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Diltiazem may also be used to treat chest pain (angina) and irregular heartbeats.
