Chemical Name: CLINDAMYCIN (klin-da-MYE-sin)
Cleocin 2% Cream is an antibiotic used in the vagina to treat certain types of infection.
WARNING: Cleocin 2% Cream may be absorbed into the bloodstream and rarely cause severe (in some cases, fatal) intestinal problems (pseudomembranous colitis). Notify your doctor immediately if you develop persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain, or blood/mucous in your stool. Your doctor will decide if you require other treatment. These symptoms may occur weeks after stopping use of this drug. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medicines if you have these symptoms. These products may make the symptoms worse. Your doctor will monitor you closely while you are using Cleocin 2% Cream. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Cleocin 2% Cream. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF CLEOCIN 2% CREAM IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of ulcerative colitis or "antibiotic-associated" colitis. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Cleocin 2% Cream.
Use Cleocin 2% Cream exactly as directed by your doctor. CLEOCIN 2% CREAM COMES WITH AN INSTRUCTION SHEET which explains how to use it. Read and make sure that you understand the directions before using a dose. If you have questions, check with your doctor or pharmacist. STORE CLEOCIN 2% CREAM at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. CONTINUE USING CLEOCIN 2% CREAM for the full course of therapy even if your symptoms improve in a few days. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF CLEOCIN 2% CREAM, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR if your condition worsens or if it does not improve within a few days. USE A SANITARY NAPKIN rather than a tampon to prevent staining of clothes and bed linens. DO NOT HAVE VAGINAL SEX during treatment to prevent reinfection. CLEOCIN 2% CREAM CONTAINS MINERAL OIL which may weaken the latex used in condoms or vaginal diaphragms. Do not use condoms or a diaphragm until at least 3 days after you finish using Cleocin 2% Cream. They may not provide adequate birth control and you may become pregnant. CLEOCIN 2% CREAM MAY CAUSE DIARRHEA either during or after treatment. If diarrhea occurs, do not try to treat it. Instead, check with your doctor for instructions. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN IF CLEOCIN 2% CREAM IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Cleocin 2% Cream, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include genital itching or burning; or irritation not present before use of Cleocin 2% Cream. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. ALSO, CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR if you experience new or worsening vaginal or vulvar itching, a white vaginal discharge, painful sex, or diarrhea. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. DO NOT SHARE CLEOCIN 2% CREAM with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CLEOCIN 2% CREAM for other health conditions. KEEP CLEOCIN 2% CREAM out of the reach of children.
