Chemical Name: LATANOPROST (la-TA-noe-prost)

Common uses
Xalatan 0.005% Solution is a prostaglandin used to treat open-angle glaucoma and increased pressure in the eye (ocular hypertension). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

Directions
Follow the directions for using Xalatan 0.005% Solution provided by your doctor. If you are using Xalatan 0.005% Solution once a day, use it in the evening before bedtime. REMOVE CONTACT LENSES before using Xalatan 0.005% Solution. Wait at least 15 minutes after using Xalatan 0.005% Solution before inserting your lenses. TO USE XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION, first, wash your hands. Tilt your head back and with your index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Turn the bottle upside down and allow a drop to form on the tip. Gently tap the bottle to allow the drop to fall into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Immediately use your finger to apply pressure to the inside corner of the eye and continue to apply pressure for 1 or 2 minutes after using the medicine. Do not blink and keep your eyes closed for 1 or 2 minutes. Remove excess medicine around your eye with a clean tissue, being careful not to touch your eye. Wash your hands to remove any medicine that may be on them. TO PREVENT GERMS from entering your medicine, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface, including your eye. Keep the container tightly closed. STORE UNOPENED BOTTLE in the refrigerator. AFTER THE BOTTLE IS OPENED, store Xalatan 0.005% Solution in the refrigerator or in a cool place below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) for up to 6 weeks. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Cautions
Green/blue or blue/gray eyes may turn brown from the use of Xalatan 0.005% Solution. This change usually appears during the first 18 months of therapy. XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION MAY CAUSE a darkening of your eyelid in the treated eye. There may also be eyelash changes such as increased length, color, thickness, or number. All of these effects may be permanent. DO NOT USE XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION within 5 minutes of any other eye medicines. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Xalatan 0.005% Solution. Xalatan 0.005% Solution may cause blurred vision. Make sure your vision is clear before driving or performing any task that requires good vision. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Xalatan 0.005% Solution during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Xalatan 0.005% Solution, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Xalatan 0.005% Solution include blurred vision; changes in eyelash growth; cold symptoms; eye burning, dryness, itching, or stinging; feeling of having something in your eye; or increased tear production. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience darkening of the eyelid or eye color; eye or eyelid discharge, inflammation, irritation, pain, redness, or swelling; or vision changes. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain or red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin. An allergic reaction to Xalatan 0.005% Solution is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Xalatan 0.005% Solution may be harmful if swallowed.

Additional information
TO PREVENT WASTE WHEN USING XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION, do not squeeze the bottle. Turn bottle right side up immediately after a drop is released. DO NOT SHARE XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION for other health conditions. KEEP XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION out of the reach of children. IF USING XALATAN 0.005% SOLUTION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
