Chemical Name: PRIMAQUINE (PRIM-a-kwin)
Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg is an antiprotozoal used to prevent or treat malaria. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg if you are also taking quinacrine. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking thyroid hormones (eg, levothyroxine) or received a rabies vaccine. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a personal or family history of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency, porphyria, or any other blood disease, psoriasis, digestive system disease, liver disease, central nervous system disease, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or certain blood problems (eg, granulocytopenia). Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg.
Follow the directions for using Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg provided by your doctor. PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. STORE PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. CONTINUE TAKING PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg for the full course of treatment. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including complete blood cell counts, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg during pregnancy. PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg include stomach pain or cramps, nausea, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you notice a darkening of urine, fast or irregular heartbeat, loss of appetite, sore throat or fever, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusual tiredness or weakness, or weight loss. An allergic reaction to Primaquine Phosphate 26.3mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include stomach cramps; severe, burning stomach pain; irregular heartbeat; vomiting; and bluish discoloration of skin.
If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg for other health conditions. KEEP PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE 26.3mg out of the reach of children and away from pets.
