Chemical Name: CICLOPIROX (sye-kloe-PEER-ox)
This medicine is an antifungal agent used to treat fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails in patients with a normal immune system (immunocompetent). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking an oral antifungal medicine, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you regularly use topical corticosteroids (such as hydrocortisone), steroid inhalers (such as fluticasone), or if you take medicine for seizures. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including diabetes, numbness of the toes or fingers, weakened immune system (such as HIV infection or AIDS), organ transplant, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE COMES WITH A PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Keep this medicine away from open flames. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using this medicine for the full course of treatment. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are using it daily at bedtime, skip the missed dose. Do not use the medicine the following morning.
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS for this medicine to work. Do not stop using this medicine without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES or problems with numbness in your fingers or toes, talk with your doctor before you trim your nails. DO NOT USE NAIL POLISH or other nail products unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. This medicine is for external use on nails and surrounding skin only. DO NOT GET THIS MEDICINE IN YOUR EYES, nose, mouth, or vagina. If you get it in your eyes, rinse right away with cool tap water. THIS MEDICINE IS FLAMMABLE. Do not use this medicine near heat or open flame. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include change in shape of nail, discoloration, ingrown toenail, or mild redness or irritation of the treated area. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience blistering, burning, oozing, or swelling of the treated area; or severe redness or irritation of the treated area. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
