Chemical Name: CICLOPIROX (sye-kloe-PEER-ox)
Penlac 8% Solution is an antifungal agent used to treat fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails in patients with a normal immune system (immunocompetent). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Penlac 8% Solution. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE PENLAC 8% SOLUTION if you are also taking an oral antifungal medicine, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you regularly use topical corticosteroids (such as hydrocortisone), steroid inhalers (such as fluticasone), or if you take medicine for seizures. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including diabetes, numbness of the toes or fingers, weakened immune system (such as HIV infection or AIDS), organ transplant, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Penlac 8% Solution.
Follow the directions for using Penlac 8% Solution provided by your doctor. PENLAC 8% SOLUTION COMES WITH A PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Penlac 8% Solution. STORE PENLAC 8% SOLUTION at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Keep Penlac 8% Solution away from open flames. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using Penlac 8% Solution for the full course of treatment. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF PENLAC 8% SOLUTION and you are using it daily at bedtime, skip the missed dose. Do not use the medicine the following morning.
DO NOT USE PENLAC 8% SOLUTION if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS for Penlac 8% Solution to work. Do not stop using Penlac 8% Solution without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS while you are using Penlac 8% Solution. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES or problems with numbness in your fingers or toes, talk with your doctor before you trim your nails. DO NOT USE NAIL POLISH or other nail products unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Penlac 8% Solution is for external use on nails and surrounding skin only. DO NOT GET PENLAC 8% SOLUTION IN YOUR EYES, nose, mouth, or vagina. If you get it in your eyes, rinse right away with cool tap water. PENLAC 8% SOLUTION IS FLAMMABLE. Do not use Penlac 8% Solution near heat or open flame. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Penlac 8% Solution during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF PENLAC 8% SOLUTION IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Penlac 8% Solution, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Penlac 8% Solution include change in shape of nail, discoloration, ingrown toenail, or mild redness or irritation of the treated area. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience blistering, burning, oozing, or swelling of the treated area; or severe redness or irritation of the treated area. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Penlac 8% Solution is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. DO NOT SHARE PENLAC 8% SOLUTION with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE PENLAC 8% SOLUTION for other health conditions. KEEP PENLAC 8% SOLUTION out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING PENLAC 8% SOLUTION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
