Chemical Name: AMLODIPINE (am-LOE-di-peen) and ATORVASTATIN (a-TOR-va-STAT-in)
Caduet 10-20mg is used to treat patients who require treatment for both high blood pressure or chest pain and high cholesterol. Caduet 10-20mg contains 2 medicines, amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure or chest pain (angina) and atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (also known as a "statin") used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in your blood. Reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol levels may help prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. Caduet 10-20mg may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Caduet 10-20mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. CADUET 10-20mg CONTAINS AMLODIPINE AND ATORVASTATIN. Do not take other medicines that contain amlodipine or atorvastatin. DO NOT TAKE CADUET 10-20mg if you are also taking itraconazole, HIV protease inhibitors (such as indinavir or ritonavir), or mibefradil. If you are currently using any of these medicines, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting Caduet 10-20mg. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amiodarone, colchicine, cyclosporine, daptomycin, diltiazem, fibrates (eg, clofibrate, gemfibrozil), fluconazole, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (eg, simvastatin), imatinib, ketoconazole, ketolide antibiotics (eg, telithromycin), macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), nefazodone, niacin, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (eg, delavirdine), quinine, streptogramins (eg, dalfopristin), verapamil, voriconazole, sildenafil, vasopressin receptor antagonists (eg, conivaptan), bosentan, carbamazepine, efavirenz, rifampin, St. John's wort, digoxin, macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus), or oral contraceptives (eg, norethindrone/estradiol). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including if you have a severe infection; blood infection; severe endocrine, metabolic, or electrolyte disorder; low blood pressure; heart problems; a history of heart failure; blood vessel problems; liver, kidney, thyroid, or muscle problems; diabetes; recent stroke; uncontrolled seizures; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you are very ill, or if you have recently had major surgery or a serious injury. Tell your doctor if you have a history of alcohol abuse or drink 3 or more alcohol-containing drinks per day. USE OF CADUET 10-20mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have active liver disease or persistent high liver enzyme levels of unknown cause, or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. CADUET 10-20mg SHOULD NOT BE USED IN CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Caduet 10-20mg.
Follow the directions for using Caduet 10-20mg provided by your doctor. TAKE CADUET 10-20mg with food or without food. TAKE CADUET 10-20mg at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after taking cholestyramine. Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice may increase the amount of Caduet 10-20mg in your blood, which may increase your risk for serious side effects. The risk may be greater with large amounts of grapefruit of grapefruit juice. Avoid large amounts of grapefruit or grapefruit juice (eg, more than one quart daily). Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about including grapefruit or grapefruit juice in your diet while you are taking Caduet 10-20mg. STORE CADUET 10-20mg at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Take Caduet 10-20mg regularly to receive the most benefit from it. Taking Caduet 10-20mg at the same time each day will help you to remember. IT IS IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE TAKING CADUET 10-20mg even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure or high cholesterol do not feel sick. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF CADUET 10-20mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
DO NOT TAKE CADUET 10-20mg if you are allergic to it or have had an allergic reaction to any ingredient in this product. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL weeks for Caduet 10-20mg to work. Do not stop using Caduet 10-20mg without checking with your doctor. LAB TESTS, including liver function, kidney function, blood pressure, blood cholesterol and other blood tests may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Caduet 10-20mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Caduet 10-20mg. CADUET 10-20mg MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS OR DIZZINESS. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Caduet 10-20mg with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. Caduet 10-20mg may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever may increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects. DRINKING ALCOHOL DAILY OR IN LARGE AMOUNTS may increase the risk of liver problems with Caduet 10-20mg. Talk to your doctor before you take Caduet 10-20mg if you drink more than 3 drinks with alcohol per day. IF YOU ARE TAKING CADUET 10-20mg FOR ANGINA, it will not relieve the pain of a sudden attack if taken at the time of the attack. It prevents or reduces the number of angina attacks only if you take it on a regular schedule. CADUET 10-20mg MAY INFREQUENTLY cause muscle damage. The risk may be greater when you first begin to take Caduet 10-20mg or whenever your dose is increased. The risk is also greater when taken with certain other medicines. Untreated, this can lead to a very serious condition known as rhabdomyolysis and kidney damage. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if they occur with fever or unusual tiredness. WHILE YOU ARE USING CADUET 10-20mg, brush and floss your teeth carefully to reduce swelling and tenderness of your gums. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes cough-and-cold products or diet aids because they may contain ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING CADUET 10-20mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Caduet 10-20mg. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE CADUET 10-20mg if you are pregnant. Avoid becoming pregnant while you are taking it. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. It is recommended that women of child-bearing age use effective birth control measures while taking Caduet 10-20mg, since it may cause fetal harm. One of the medicines in CADUET 10-20mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Caduet 10-20mg.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Caduet 10-20mg include constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, flushing, gas, headache, nausea, stomach upset or pain, tiredness, or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience change in the amount of urine produced or increased urination; changes in vision; dark urine; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; increased frequency, duration, or severity of chest pain; joint pain; muscle aches, pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially with fever, unusual tiredness, or general body discomfort; numbness of an arm or leg; pale stools; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe or persistent stomach pain; sharp or crushing chest pain; sudden leg pain; sudden severe headache, vomiting, dizziness, or fainting; sudden shortness of breath; swelling of your feet or legs; tender, bleeding, or swollen gums; unexplained weight gain; or yellowing of eyes or skin. AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO CADUET 10-20mg IS UNLIKELY, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, fainting, and a fast heartbeat.
FOR BEST RESULTS, Caduet 10-20mg should be used along with exercise, a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet, and a weight loss program if you are overweight. FOLLOW THE DIETARY PLAN provided by your doctor. Have your blood pressure checked regularly while taking Caduet 10-20mg. It may be best to learn how to monitor your own blood pressure. Consult with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE CADUET 10-20mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CADUET 10-20mg for other health conditions. KEEP CADUET 10-20mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF YOU WILL BE USING CADUET 10-20mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
