Chemical Name: VALSARTAN (val-SAR-tan) and HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE (hye-droe-klor-oh-THYE-a-zide)
Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg is an angiotensin II antagonist and thiazide diuretic combination used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be used to treat congestive heart failure and other conditions as determined by your doctor.
WARNING: Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg may cause birth defects or fetal death if you take it while you are pregnant. If you think you may be pregnanct, contact your doctor immediately. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg if you are also taking dofetilide or ketanserin. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking diazoxide, digitoxin, digoxin, or lithium. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg.
Follow the directions for using Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg provided by your doctor. DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg will increase urination. If you are taking 1 dose of Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg daily, take it in the morning to prevent this from affecting your sleep. If you are taking more than 1 dose daily, take the last dose no later than 6 pm. STORE DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg or any other sulfonamide medicine (such as Septra DS, Bactrim DS, Gantrisin, glyburide, or probenecid), contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg. A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg or if a certain medicine is a sulfonamide, contact your doctor or pharmacist. DO NOT STOP USING DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg without first checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg. DRINKING ADEQUATE FLUIDS while you are taking Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg is recommended. Inadequate fluid intake, excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting can lead to lightheadedness and fainting. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg. Using Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. DO NOT USE A SALT SUBSTITUTE or potassium supplement without checking with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: USE OF DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg DURING PREGNANCY has resulted in fetal and newborn death. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. Women of child-bearing age should discuss the risks and benefits of using Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg with their doctor. DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Diovan Hct 160-12.5mg include headache, fatigue, lightheadedness, or dizziness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience fainting, rash or itching, muscle pain or cramps, vomiting, restlessness, dry mouth, unusual thirst, unusual tiredness or weakness, rapid or irregular heartbeat, or drowsiness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. DO NOT SHARE DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg for other health conditions. KEEP DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg out of the reach of children. IF USING DIOVAN HCT 160-12.5mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
