Chemical Name: IRBESARTAN (ir-be-SAR-tan) and HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE (hye-droe-klor-oh-THYE-a-zide)
Avalide 300-12.5mg is an angiotensin II receptor blocker and thiazide diuretic combination used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
WARNING: This drug can cause serious fetal harm if used during the last six months of pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, stop using this drug and immediately contact your physician. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Avalide 300-12.5mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE AVALIDE 300-12.5mg if you are also taking lithium, dofetilide, or ketanserin. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking "water pills" (such as spironolactone, triamterene, or furosemide), ACE inhibitors (such as captopril or lisinopril), amantadine, certain medicines for cancer (such as methotrexate or fluorouracil), barbiturates (such as phenobarbital), narcotic pain medicine (such as codeine or hydrocodone), corticosteroids (such as prednisone), diazoxide, digoxin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (such as ibuprofen, naproxen or celecoxib), or if you must be given a certain type of muscle relaxants (such as pancuronium or atracurium). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including heart problems, kidney problems, dehydration, liver problems, asthma, lupus, gout, diabetes, recent surgery (such as sympathectomy), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF AVALIDE 300-12.5mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of severe kidney problems or kidney failure. Use of Avalide 300-12.5mg in children under age 6 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving Avalide 300-12.5mg to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Avalide 300-12.5mg.
Follow the directions for using Avalide 300-12.5mg provided by your doctor. Avalide 300-12.5mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. WHEN YOU FIRST START TAKING AVALIDE 300-12.5mg, it may cause an increase in urine or in frequency of urination. To prevent this from affecting sleep, try not to take any dose later than 6 pm. STORE AVALIDE 300-12.5mg at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Take Avalide 300-12.5mg regularly to receive the most benefit from it. Taking Avalide 300-12.5mg at the same time each day will help you to remember. CONTINUE TO TAKE AVALIDE 300-12.5mg even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF AVALIDE 300-12.5mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE AVALIDE 300-12.5mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to Avalide 300-12.5mg or any other sulfonamide medicine (such as Spetra DS, Bactrim DS, Gantrisin, glyburide, or probenecid), contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking Avalide 300-12.5mg. A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to Avalide 300-12.5mg or if a certain medicine is a sulfonamide, contact your doctor or pharmacist. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS for Avalide 300-12.5mg to work. Do not stop using Avalide 300-12.5mg without checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including blood pressure, kidney function, blood electrolyte levels, and blood cholesterol may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Avalide 300-12.5mg. AVALIDE 300-12.5mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, lightheadedness, or fainting, especially when you first start taking Avalide 300-12.5mg. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise or excessive sweating, excessive vomiting or diarrhea, decreased fluid intake, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Avalide 300-12.5mg. Using Avalide 300-12.5mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. AVALIDE 300-12.5mg MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Avalide 300-12.5mg. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. AVALIDE 300-12.5mg MAY CAUSE HYPERGLYCEMIA (high blood sugar). Symptoms of hyperglycemia include thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, or fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, TELL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT USE A SALT SUBSTITUTE or other potassium supplement without checking with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING AVALIDE 300-12.5mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: USE OF AVALIDE 300-12.5mg DURING PREGNANCY has resulted in fetal and newborn death. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. ONE OF THE MEDICINES IN AVALIDE 300-12.5mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Avalide 300-12.5mg. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Avalide 300-12.5mg may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Avalide 300-12.5mg include upset stomach or heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and tiredness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience weakness, dizziness, or fainting. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience unusual or severe muscle weakness; irregular heartbeat; yellowing of skin or eyes; swelling of hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; or hoarseness. An allergic reaction to Avalide 300-12.5mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, unusual dizziness or drowsiness, unusual thirst, fainting, confusion, unusually rapid or slow heartbeat, or seizures.
DO NOT SHARE AVALIDE 300-12.5mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE AVALIDE 300-12.5mg for other health conditions. KEEP AVALIDE 300-12.5mg out of the reach of children. IF USING AVALIDE 300-12.5mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
