Chemical Name: BENZOYL PEROXIDE (BEN-zoyl per-OX-ide)
Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel is a keratolytic agent with antibacterial actions used to treat acne.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are using other skin products or acne medicines. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about using Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel.
Follow the directions for using Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel provided by your doctor or on the package. TO USE THE GEL WASH: wet the affected area. Use your hands to apply the medicine and gently wash. Rinse with water and pat dry. Wash your hands after using Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel. TO USE THE GEL: wash and completely dry the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after using Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel. STORE BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
DO NOT USE BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL IF you are allergic to any ingredient in Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel. USE ON THE SKIN ONLY. Avoid getting Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel in your eyes, eyelids, on the inside of your nose or mouth, on highly inflamed or damaged skin, or on your lips. If you get Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel in your eyes, immediately wash them out with cool tap water. AVOID APPLYING BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL TO raw or irritated skin, including sunburns or open wounds. SEVERAL WEEKS MAY PASS BEFORE YOU SEE IMPROVEMENT in your acne. Continue to use Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel for the full time recommended by your doctor. If your acne does not improve or if it gets worse, check with your doctor. TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU USE any other medicines, special cleansers, aftershave, or cosmetics on your skin. BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL MAY CAUSE YOU TO BECOME SUNBURNED more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time. BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL MAY CAUSE BLEACHING. Avoid contact with hair, fabrics, or carpeting. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IT IS NOT KNOWN IF BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL CAN CAUSE HARM to the fetus. IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel while you are pregnant. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL IS FOUND in breast milk after topical use. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you use Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel include dryness; feeling of warmth; irritation; itching; peeling; redness; or stinging. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience excessive burning, itching, irritation, peeling, redness, or tenderness of your skin; extreme dryness; or swelling. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If overdose is suspected contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include excessive scaling or redness, or swelling at the application site. Benzac Ac 2.5% Gel may be harmful if swallowed.
DO NOT SHARE BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL for other health conditions. KEEP BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING BENZAC AC 2.5% GEL FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
