Chemical Name: CLOBETASOL (kloe-BAY-ta-sol)
Clobex 0.05% Shampoo is a potent corticosteroid used to treat moderate to severe forms of scalp psoriasis in adults. Clobex 0.05% Shampoo is used only for short periods of time. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking prednisone (or similar medicines). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including scalp infection, allergies (especially to other corticosteroids), pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Use of Clobex 0.05% Shampoo in children under age 18 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving Clobex 0.05% Shampoo to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo.
Follow the directions for using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo provided by your doctor. Clobex 0.05% Shampoo comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Clobex 0.05% Shampoo. Clobex 0.05% Shampoo is for use on the scalp only. Do not apply the medicine to the face, groin, or armpit areas. TO USE CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO: separate the hair to expose the area of the scalp where the medicine will be applied. Apply medicine only to a dry scalp. Apply a thin film of medicine to the affected area. Avoid getting the medicine onto unaffected areas of skin. Gently massage the medicine into the area. Repeat for all areas of the scalp that require treatment with the medicine. Wash your hands after applying Clobex 0.05% Shampoo. Leave the medicine on the scalp for 15 minutes or as long as directed by your doctor. After leaving the medicine on the scalp for the prescribed length of time, add water to your hair and work into a lather. Rinse the hair well. Rinse your hands and any area of skin such as the neck, face, or shoulders that may have come into contact with the medicine. No additional shampoo is needed to cleanse your hair after using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo. However, you may wash your hair with additional, non-medicated shampoo if desired. DO NOT cover your scalp with a shower or bathing cap unless directed otherwise by your doctor. STORE CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
DO NOT USE CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE WITHIN a few weeks, or if they become worse, check with your doctor. Use of Clobex 0.05% Shampoo for longer than 4 weeks is not recommended. DO NOT USE CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO longer than the time prescribed. Clobex 0.05% Shampoo should be used for the shortest possible amount of time to reduce the chance for side effects. Do not use more than 1.75 ounces (50ml) of Clobex 0.05% Shampoo per week. Contact your doctor or pharmacist for more information. DO NOT USE CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO for other scalp conditions at a later time. DO NOT GET CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO in your eyes or on your lips. If the medicine gets into your eyes or on your lips, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If irritation or stinging develops after rinsing with water, contact your doctor as soon as possible for instructions. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo. Though very unlikely, it is possible that Clobex 0.05% Shampoo may be absorbed into your bloodstream. This may cause a problem known as HPA suppression that requires additional corticosteroid treatment. Certain people, including children, those who have used the medicine for a long period of time, or those with serious illnesses may have an increased risk for developing these effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop vision problems, ongoing headache, increased thirst or urination, unusual weakness or weight loss, or dizziness. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Clobex 0.05% Shampoo may include burning, stinging, itching, acne, or dry skin. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you develop nausea, vomiting, vision problems, ongoing headache, increased thirst or urination, unusual weakness or weight loss, or dizziness. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Clobex 0.05% Shampoo is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include increased thirst or urination; muscle weakness; or unusual weight gain, especially in the face.
If your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO for other health conditions. KEEP CLOBEX 0.05% SHAMPOO out of the reach of children and pets.
