Chemical Name: BICALUTAMIDE (BYE-ka-LOO-ta-mide)
Casodex 50mg is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen used for treating prostate cancer. Casodex 50mg is intended for use with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Casodex 50mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking oral anticoagulants (eg, warfarin). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including liver disease or diabetes, or allergies. USE OF CASODEX 50mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are a woman, you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding. Casodex 50mg should not be used in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Casodex 50mg.
Follow the directions for taking Casodex 50mg provided by your doctor. An extra patient leaflet is available with Casodex 50mg. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. TAKE CASODEX 50mg by mouth with or without food. Take Casodex 50mg with your other prostate cancer medicine at the same time each day. STORE CASODEX 50mg at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of Casodex 50mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT USE CASODEX 50mg IF you are allergic to any ingredient in Casodex 50mg. CASODEX 50mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS OR DROWSINESS. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Casodex 50mg with caution. DO NOT DRIVE OR PERFORM OTHER POSSIBLY UNSAFE TASKS until you know how you react to it. CASODEX 50mg MAY CAUSE CONSTIPATION OR DIARRHEA. If you experience either constipation or diarrhea, ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a treatment for you. LAB TESTS, including liver function tests, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and blood sugar levels, may be performed while you use Casodex 50mg. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Use Casodex 50mg with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects. FOR WOMEN: CASODEX 50mg IS NOT APPROVED FOR USE IN WOMEN. Do not use Casodex 50mg if you are pregnant. Avoid becoming pregnant while you are taking it. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor right away. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF CASODEX 50mg IS FOUND in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Casodex 50mg. DIABETES PATIENTS: Casodex 50mg may raise your blood sugar. High blood sugar may make you feel confused, drowsy, or thirsty. It can also make you flush, breathe faster, or have a fruit-like breath odor. If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor right away.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Casodex 50mg include back, pelvic, stomach, or general body pain; constipation; decreased sexual ability; diarrhea; dizziness; frequent urination, especially at night; gas; headache; hot flashes; nausea; stomach upset; sweating; trouble sleeping; or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience black or bloody stools; blurred vision or other vision changes; bone pain; breast growth or pain; changes in the amount of urine produced; chest pain; dark or bloody urine; fainting; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; flu-like symptoms; increased hunger, thirst, or urination; joint pain, stiffness, or swelling; loss of appetite; mental or mood changes (eg, anxiety, depression); muscle aches or weakness; numbness or tingling of the skin; severe or persistent cough; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, or headache; severe or persistent nausea or stomach pain; shortness of breath; swelling of the ankles, legs, or feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness or weakness; vomiting; weight change; or yellowing of the skin or eyes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Casodex 50mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. DO NOT SHARE CASODEX 50mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CASODEX 50mg for other health conditions. KEEP CASODEX 50mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING CASODEX 50mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
