Chemical Name: ROSUVASTATIN (roe-SOO-va-STAT-in)
Crestor 40mg is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (also known as a "statin") used with a proper diet to help lower cholesterol and fat (triglyceride) levels and to raise good cholesterol (HDL) levels in your blood. It is also used to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) in certain patients with high cholesterol. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Crestor 40mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE CRESTOR 40mg if you are also taking itraconazole, mibefradil, or telithromycin. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking colchicine, daptomycin, fibrates (eg, clofibrate, fenofibrate, or gemfibrozil), immunosuppressants (eg, cyclosporine), lopinavir/ritonavir, niacin, anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), cimetidine, ketoconazole, macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus), spironolactone, or thrombopoietin mimetics (eg, eltrombopag) . DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including low blood pressure; a serious infection; kidney problems; liver problems; an underactive thyroid; diabetes; a history of seizures; certain muscle problems (eg, pain, weakness); increased creatine phosphokinase (CPK) blood levels; metabolism, hormonal, or electrolyte problems; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you are dehydrated; are on dialysis; have had an organ transplant; or have recently had major surgery or a serious injury. Tell your doctor if you drink 2 or more glasses of alcohol daily or if you have a history of alcohol abuse. USE OF CRESTOR 40mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have active liver disease, unexplained abnormal liver function test results, or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Crestor 40mg.
Follow the directions for using Crestor 40mg provided by your doctor. An extra patient leaflet is available with Crestor 40mg. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. Crestor 40mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Swallow the tablets whole. DO NOT TAKE ANTACIDS that contain aluminum or magnesium for at least 2 hours after taking Crestor 40mg. STORE CRESTOR 40mg at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Crestor 40mg should be taken regularly to get the most benefit from it. Taking Crestor 40mg at the same time each day will help you remember. IT IS IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE TAKING CRESTOR 40mg even if you feel well. Most people with high cholesterol or triglycerides do not feel sick. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF CRESTOR 40mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once or within 12 hours of each other.
DO NOT TAKE CRESTOR 40mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to other similar medicines, or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IT MAY TAKE 2 to 4 WEEKS before the full benefit of Crestor 40mg is seen. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Crestor 40mg for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. DO NOT STOP USING CRESTOR 40mg without first checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including liver function tests, kidney function tests, blood cholesterol levels, and creatine phosphokinase (CPK) blood levels, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Crestor 40mg. CRESTOR 40mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Crestor 40mg with caution. DO NOT DRIVE OR PERFORM OTHER POSSIBLY UNSAFE TASKS until you know how you react to it. DRINKING ALCOHOL DAILY OR IN LARGE AMOUNTS may increase the risk of liver problems with Crestor 40mg. Check with your doctor before drinking alcohol while you are taking Crestor 40mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Crestor 40mg. REPORT ANY UNEXPLAINED MUSCLE PAIN, TENDERNESS, OR WEAKNESS to your doctor right away, especially if you also have a fever or general body discomfort. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING CRESTOR 40mg IN ASIAN PATIENTS AND IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Crestor 40mg, especially serious muscle problems (such as muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness). Contact your doctor for more information. FOR WOMEN: If you are able to become pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about the use of effective birth control while taking Crestor 40mg. DO NOT USE CRESTOR 40mg if you are pregnant. It may cause harm to the fetus. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. IT IS UNKNOWN IF CRESTOR 40mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Crestor 40mg.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Crestor 40mg include constipation, headache, nausea, stomach pain, or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain; bloody or dark urine; joint pain; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (with or without fever or fatigue); pale stools; severe or persistent headache; severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; yellowing of the skin or eyes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO CRESTOR 40mg is unlikely but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. FOR BEST RESULTS, Crestor 40mg should be used along with exercise, a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet, and a weight loss program if you are overweight. FOLLOW THE DIETARY PLAN provided by your doctor. DO NOT SHARE CRESTOR 40mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CRESTOR 40mg for other health conditions. KEEP CRESTOR 40mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING CRESTOR 40mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
