Chemical Name: TERAZOSIN (ter-AZ-oh-sin)
Terazosin Hcl 5mg is an alpha blocker used to treat high blood pressure and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Terazosin Hcl 5mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING of your dose or condition may be needed if you are also taking verapamil or phosphodiesterase inhibitors (such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including prostate cancer, low blood pressure, angina, heart disease, kidney or liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you will be having eye surgery. Use of Terazosin Hcl 5mg in children is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving Terazosin Hcl 5mg to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Terazosin Hcl 5mg.
Follow the directions for using Terazosin Hcl 5mg provided by your doctor. TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg MAY CAUSE A SUDDEN DROP IN BLOOD PRESSURE after the first dose. Take your first dose at bedtime. If you get up during the night, sit up slowly, then stand slowly. This will help to reduce your lightheadedness or dizziness. These effects will more likely occur after the first few doses or if your dose has increased, but can occur at any time while you are taking the medicine. It can also occur if you stop taking the medicine and then restart treatment. STORE TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
DO NOT TAKE TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product or to any similar medicine (eg, prazosin). DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE without checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including blood pressure, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Terazosin Hcl 5mg. Terazosin Hcl 5mg may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or lightheadedness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Terazosin Hcl 5mg. Using Terazosin Hcl 5mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, lightheadedness, or fainting. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness. AVOID ALCOHOL while you are using Terazosin Hcl 5mg. TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants. Patients who take medicine for high blood pressure often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel "normal." Tell your doctor if you develop any new symptoms. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY (including eye surgery), tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Terazosin Hcl 5mg. TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg MAY RARELY CAUSE A PROLONGED, PAINFUL ERECTION. This could happen even when you are not having sex. If this is not treated right away, it could lead to permanent sexual problems such as impotence. Contact your doctor right away if this happens. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Terazosin Hcl 5mg during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Terazosin Hcl 5mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Terazosin Hcl 5mg include dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, nasal congestion, nausea, or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blurred vision or other vision changes; chest pain; decreased sexual desire or ability; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; painful, prolonged erection; severe or prolonged dizziness or headache; shortness of breath; or swelling of the ankles, feet, or hands. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Terazosin Hcl 5mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. DO NOT SHARE TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg for other health conditions. KEEP TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING TERAZOSIN HCL 5mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
