Chemical Name: PREDNISOLONE (pred-NISS-oh-lone)

Common uses
Prelone 15mg/5ml is a corticosteroid used to treat severe allergies, arthritis, asthma, and skin conditions. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Prelone 15mg/5ml. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE PRELONE 15mg/5ml if you are also taking mifepristone. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are using amphotericin B, anticholinesterase medicines (such as neostigmine), or if you are taking barbiturates (such as phenobarbital), birth control pills, clarithromycin, cyclosporine, digoxin, certain diuretics (such as hydrochlorothiazide or furosemide), ephedrine, estrogens, ketoconazole, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (such as naproxen or ibuprofen), rifampin, salicylates (such as aspirin), medicine for seizures (such as carbamazepine or phenytoin), methotrexate, ritodrine, or warfarin. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a history of cirrhosis; diabetes; unexplained diarrhea; glaucoma; heart problems (such as congestive heart failure); high blood pressure; current or recent bacterial, fungal, protozoal, threadworm, or viral infection; tuberculosis; kidney problems; herpes simplex infection of the eye; osteoporosis; myasthenia gravis; mental or mood problems; stomach or bowel problems (such as diverticulitis, ulcers, ulcerative colitis, or recent surgery); thyroid problems; allergies; pregnancy; breast-feeding; or if you are on a low salt diet. USE OF PRELONE 15mg/5ml IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a systemic fungal infection, inflammation of the eye nerve (optic neuritis), or a malarial infection in the brain. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Prelone 15mg/5ml.

Directions
Follow the directions for using Prelone 15mg/5ml provided by your doctor. TAKE PRELONE 15mg/5ml with food or a snack. STORE PRELONE 15mg/5ml at room temperature, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF PRELONE 15mg/5ml and you are taking 1 dose daily, take it as soon as possible. If you do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE PRELONE 15mg/5ml if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT STOP TAKING PRELONE 15mg/5ml without checking with your doctor. Stopping Prelone 15mg/5ml suddenly may cause serious side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Prelone 15mg/5ml. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Prelone 15mg/5ml. CORTICOSTEROIDS MAY LOWER YOUR ABILITY TO FIGHT INFECTION or may cause infections to be more severe. The risk may be greater if you take them for a long time. Avoid contact with people who have infections such as colds, chickenpox, measles, or tuberculosis (TB). Tell your doctor right away if you have contact with anyone who has these infections. Tell your doctor if you develop symptoms such as fever, sore throat, rash, or chills. Check with your doctor if you have questions about your risk of infection. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE HAVING IMMUNIZATIONS (VACCINATIONS) while you are using Prelone 15mg/5ml. IF YOU HAVE OSTEOPOROSIS (weak bones) or if you are at risk for developing osteoporosis, be sure you have enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet while you are taking Prelone 15mg/5ml. If you have questions about your risk for osteoporosis or whether you may need to take a calcium or vitamin D supplement while you take Prelone 15mg/5ml, talk with your doctor. CORTICOSTEROID MEDICINES MAY AFFECT growth rate in children and adolescents when used for an extended period of time. Your child's growth should be checked regularly while using Prelone 15mg/5ml. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Prelone 15mg/5ml during pregnancy. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Prelone 15mg/5ml, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Prelone 15mg/5ml may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while you are taking Prelone 15mg/5ml include difficulty sleeping, nervousness, increased appetite, indigestion, or nausea. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience bone problems (such as bone pain, or broken or fractured bones); chronic back pain; changes in menstrual periods; headache; muscle aches or weakness; fever, cold, or prolonged sore throat; vision changes or other eye problems; or unusual weight gain. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience swelling of feet, hands, or legs; black, tarry stools; mood, mental, or personality changes; seizures; severe muscle pain or weakness; skin growths; severe nausea or vomiting; or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. An allergic reaction to Prelone 15mg/5ml is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

If you take too much

DO NOT SHARE PRELONE 15mg/5ml with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE PRELONE 15mg/5ml for other health conditions. KEEP PRELONE 15mg/5ml out of the reach of children. IF USING PRELONE 15mg/5ml FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
