Chemical Name: ASPIRIN (AS-pir-in) and DIPYRIDAMOLE (dye-peer-ID-a-mole)
Aggrenox 25-200mg is an antiplatelet combination used to prevent strokes in patients who have had transient ischemia or ischemic stroke due to blood clots. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
WARNING: Children and teenagers should not use aspirin, aspirin- containing or aspirin-related medicines for flu symptoms or chickenpox without first consulting a doctor. A rare but serious illness known as Reye's syndrome may occur. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Aggrenox 25-200mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE AGGRENOX 25-200mg if you are also taking probenecid or sulfinpyrazone. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking an anticoagulant, methotrexate, valproic acid, or oral medicine for glaucoma (carbonic anhydrase inhibitors) or diabetes. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including asthma, nasal polyps, any allergies - especially aspirin/NSAID allergy (e.g., ibuprofen, celecoxib), pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Aggrenox 25-200mg.
Follow the directions for using Aggrenox 25-200mg provided by your doctor. SWALLOW WHOLE. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. STORE AGGRENOX 25-200mg at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF AGGRENOX 25-200mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE AGGRENOX 25-200mg IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to aspirin or any medicine containing aspirin or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (such as Feldene, Motrin, Naprosyn, Clinoril). A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to Aggrenox 25-200mg, contact your doctor or pharmacist. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Aggrenox 25-200mg. Using Aggrenox 25-200mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. ALCOHOL, HOT WEATHER, EXERCISE, AND FEVER can increase dizziness. To prevent dizziness or fainting, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness or weakness. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Aggrenox 25-200mg. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any medicines that contain aspirin or salicylates. ALCOHOL WARNING: If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take Aggrenox 25-200mg or other pain relievers/fever reducers. Aggrenox 25-200mg may cause stomach bleeding. FOR WOMEN: AGGRENOX 25-200mg HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Aggrenox 25-200mg during pregnancy. AGGRENOX 25-200mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Aggrenox 25-200mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Aggrenox 25-200mg may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include stomach pain, headache, heartburn, dizziness, or constipation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience severe stomach pain; nausea; vomiting; bloody or black, tarry stools; vomiting of blood; rash; swelling of hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; hoarseness; yellowing of the skin or eyes; dark urine or pale stools; or unusual fatigue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include ringing in the ears, flushing, sweating, restlessness, weakness, dizziness and fast heartbeat.
DO NOT SHARE AGGRENOX 25-200mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE AGGRENOX 25-200mg for other health conditions. KEEP AGGRENOX 25-200mg out of the reach of children. IF USING AGGRENOX 25-200mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
