Chemical Name: CYCLOBENZAPRINE (sye-kloe-BEN-za-preen)

Common uses
This medicine is a muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasms caused by painful muscle conditions. It should be used along with rest and physical therapy. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking tramadol, droperidol, fluoxetine, rasagiline, anticholinergics (such as methscopolamine, benztropine), barbiturates (such as phenobarbital), cimetidine, fluconazole, fluvoxamine, mibefradil, naproxen, phenothiazines (such as chlorpromazine), carbamazepine, guanethidine, guanfacine, or sympathomimetics (such as albuterol, epinephrine, phenylephrine. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver problems, heart problems, cerebral palsy, brain or spinal cord disease, stroke, glaucoma, increased pressure in the eye, or trouble urinating. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have an overactive thyroid, moderate to severe liver problems, certain heart problems (eg, irregular heartbeat, congestive heart failure, heart block, conduction problems), or if you have recently had a heart attack. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without first checking with your doctor. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take this medicine for longer than 2 to 3 weeks without checking with your doctor. If your symptoms (such as pain, tenderness, decreased range of motion) do not improve within 2 to 3 weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. EATING GRAPEFRUIT OR DRINKING GRAPEFRUIT JUICE WHILE YOU ARE TAKING THIS MEDICINE may increase the amount of this medicine in your blood, which may increase your risk for serious side effects. Talk with your doctor before including grapefruit or grapefruit juice in your diet. AVOID ALCOHOL while you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. IF YOU EXPERIENCE DRY MOUTH, use sugarless candy or gum, or melt bits of ice in your mouth. If dry mouth continues for more than 2 weeks, contact your dentist or doctor DO NOT BECOME OVERHEATED IN HOT WEATHER or while you are being active; heatstroke may occur. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine especially confusion, hallucinations, and fast or irregular heartbeat. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, nausea, nervousness, and stomach pain or upset. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain, confusion, fainting, fast or irregular heartbeat, mental or mood changes, numbness of an arm or a leg, one-sided weakness, seizures, sudden severe stomach pain, severe vomiting, speech or vision problems, trouble urinating, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include agitation; chest pain; coma; confusion; fast or irregular heartbeat; loss of coordination; hallucinations; seizures; severe drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, or headache; slurred speech; tremor; or vomiting.

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.
