Chemical Name: METAXALONE (me-TAX-a-lone)
Skelaxin 800mg is a muscle relaxant used for treating discomfort associated with acute painful muscle conditions along with rest, physical therapy, or other measures.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Skelaxin 800mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE SKELAXIN 800mg IF you are taking sodium oxybate (GHB). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking benzodiazepines (eg, diazepam), narcotic pain medicines (eg, codeine), or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including enlarged prostate gland, liver or kidney problems, the blood disease porphyria, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF SKELAXIN 800mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have severe liver or kidney problems or a known tendency to drug-induced, hemolytic, or other anemias. Skelaxin 800mg should not be used in CHILDREN younger than 12 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Skelaxin 800mg.
Follow the directions for taking Skelaxin 800mg provided by your doctor. Take Skelaxin 800mg by mouth with or without food. Taking it with food may increase the risk of drowsiness or dizziness. STORE SKELAXIN 800mg at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of Skelaxin 800mg and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT USE SKELAXIN 800mg IF you are allergic to any ingredient in Skelaxin 800mg. LAB TESTS, including liver function, may be performed while you use Skelaxin 800mg. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. SKELAXIN 800mg MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS OR DIZZINESS. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Skelaxin 800mg with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE you drink alcohol or use medicines that may cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are using Skelaxin 800mg; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Use Skelaxin 800mg with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially drowsiness or dizziness. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Skelaxin 800mg while you are pregnant. It is not known if Skelaxin 800mg is found in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Skelaxin 800mg. DIABETES PATIENTS - Skelaxin 800mg may cause the results of some tests for urine glucose to be wrong. Ask your doctor before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Skelaxin 800mg include dizziness; drowsiness; headache; irritability; nausea; nervousness; upset stomach; or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience fever, chills, or sore throat; unusual or severe tiredness or weakness; or yellowing of the skin or eyes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Skelaxin 800mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur.
