Chemical Name: ZALEPLON (ZAL-e-plon)
Sonata 10mg is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic agent used for the short-term treatment of insomnia due to difficulty falling asleep.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Sonata 10mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OF CONDITION may be needed if you are taking cimetidine, sodium oxybate, rifampin, or medicine for seizures. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies (especially to tartrazine dye or aspirin), pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF SONATA 10mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of severe liver problems. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Sonata 10mg.
Follow the directions for using Sonata 10mg provided by your doctor. Sonata 10mg comes with a MEDICATION GUIDE approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Read it carefully each time you refill Sonata 10mg. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Sonata 10mg. SONATA 10mg WORKS VERY QUICKLY. Take Sonata 10mg immediately before going to bed or after you have gone to bed and have had trouble falling asleep. Take Sonata 10mg only when you will be able to sleep 4 hours or longer. Avoid taking Sonata 10mg with or after a high-fat meal. Doing so may delay when the medicine will begin to work. STORE SONATA 10mg at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light.
DO NOT TAKE SONATA 10mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Sonata 10mg for longer than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking Sonata 10mg for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. If your symptoms do not improve in 7 to 10 days or if they become worse, check with your doctor. SONATA 10mg WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL and other depressants. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Sonata 10mg. Continue to use caution the morning after taking Sonata 10mg. Using Sonata 10mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. TAKING SONATA 10mg while still up and about may cause memory loss, hallucinations, dizziness, lightheadedness, or clumsiness. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR if you continue to have trouble sleeping or notice changes in your behavior or thinking. SOME PATIENTS TAKING SONATA 10mg have performed certain activities while they were not fully awake. These have included sleep-driving, making and eating food, making phone calls, and having sex. Patients often do not remember these events after they happen. Such an event may be more likely to occur if you use a high dose of Sonata 10mg. It may also be more likely if you drink alcohol or take other medicines that may cause drowsiness while you use Sonata 10mg. Tell your doctor right away if such an event happens to you. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED when using Sonata 10mg in the elderly, as they may be more sensitive to the effects of Sonata 10mg. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Sonata 10mg during pregnancy. SONATA 10mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Sonata 10mg.
A SIDE EFFECT that may occur while taking Sonata 10mg is short-term memory loss. If it continues or is bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience daytime drowsiness. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience bizarre behavior, or mood or mental changes. An allergic reaction to Sonata 10mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness; confusion; sluggishness; loss of coordination; slow, shallow breathing; and loss of consciousness.
You may experience trouble sleeping for 1 to 2 nights after you stop taking Sonata 10mg. If it continues, contact your doctor. DO NOT SHARE SONATA 10mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE SONATA 10mg for other health conditions. KEEP SONATA 10mg out of the reach of children.
