Chemical Name: LIDOCAINE (LYE-doe-kane)
Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion is an anesthetic used on the skin to relieve itching and painful skin problems (such as minor burns, insect bites, scrapes) including conditions around the groin or anal area (such as hemorrhoids, fissures). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking, especially any other skin medicines. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking certain antiarrhythmics (such as amiodarone, mexiletine), beta-blockers (such as atenolol), or cimetidine. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including heart, liver, or kidney problems; severe illness or weakness; allergies (especially to other anesthetics like benzocaine); pregnancy; or breast-feeding. USE OF LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION IS NOT RECOMMENDED if there are signs of infection in the affected area (such as oozing, warmth, pain), or if there are skin lesions, open sores, or injury in the affected area.
Follow the directions for using Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion provided by your doctor. Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion should only be used on the skin (topically). Wash and completely dry the affected area. Apply a thin layer to the affected area, usually two or three times daily; or as directed by your doctor. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. DO NOT BANDAGE OR WRAP the affected area, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Wash your hands immediately after using Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion, unless your hands are part of the treated area. Use carefully if applying to the face. Discard unused medicine and packaging in the trash out of the reach of children and pets. STORE LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
If your condition does not improve within a few days or if it becomes worse, check with your doctor. USE LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION EXACTLY AS DIRECTED. Do not use more medicine, apply more often, or use for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve faster, but side effects may be increased. Avoid getting Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion in your eyes. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you develop any sign of infection in the affected area (e.g., warmth, oozing, pain). FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion during pregnancy. LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion include numbness, redness, or irritation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blurred vision; chest pain; dizziness; drowsiness; irregular heartbeat; signs of infection (such as oozing, warmth, pain); rectal bleeding; severe or persistent irritation, or trembling. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Lidocaine Hcl 3% Lotion is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, unusual itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION for other health conditions. KEEP LIDOCAINE HCL 3% LOTION out of the reach of children and pets.
