Not Sheer! by Virgo in San Francisco on 10/3/08 Pros: Effective Protection Cons: Leaves Streaks and Crumbs Bottom Line: not recommended I tried this in both the SPF 55 and SPF 70 formulas, and didn't find either one to be "sheer". Both require a ton of blending to get rid of the white streaks and little "crumbs", but they do blend eventually. It's not bad, but I think there are better, more sheer, and less expensive sunblocks available.

Effective, but not perfect absorbtion by Avoiding skin cancer in Saint Paul, MN on 9/26/08 Pros: Effective Protection, Sweatproof, UVA/UVB Protection Best Uses: Daily Use, Sports I try to apply sunscreen to my neck and arms everyday. This one wins big points for good protection, but it does leave minor white film that sometimes shows and sometimes flakes or rubs off. It is superb for sports protection, but not as perfect for the everyday application I had hoped.

This stung our faces something terrible swimming in the ocean. It also ran into my eyes while running and stung them terribly. I'll never put this on my face again. I'm not 100% sure this actually offers any SPF protection at all. Either we sweated it off while sightseeing in the Caribbean, or it doesn't offer much sun protection. At SPF 70, you'd think you wouldn't burn, especially if you tend to tan... but we did anyway. The product is also kind of difficult to apply, not because it sits on top of the skin, but it simply doesn't spread easily. You need to use twice as much sunblock as you normally would just to properly cover your skin. It also feels greasy when you enter the water, which makes me wonder if it's even getting absorbed into the skin. We really preferred Banana Boat's Ultra Defense over this stuff, and at the price difference, we'll stick with that.

Not for face by Skin fanatic in MA on 8/28/08 Cons: Greasy or Heavy, Not Effective, Runs Easily Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented Bottom Line: not recommended I was too excited to see the higher SPF like other reviews had stated. I had purchased this product for a beach trip to Cancun hoping that the light weight condition will make it suitable for a hot climate. The first day, I put this on for a day on the beach. The sunscreen was sticky and did not have the ultra dry sheer touch it boasts. When I did take a dip in the ocean, the sunscreen ran into my eyes and was extremely painful. I flushed my eyes out with an eye wash but the damage was done. My eyes were swollen for the rest of trip. I would also mention that my face was extremely burned. I would not recommend this product for the face or those with sensitive skin, perhaps for your body.

I'm really fair, but this left white streaks all over--I look like a deranged clown. I put this on, get dressed, wipe the white streaks it leaves on my clothing off, and do a streak patrol. By the time I get to work, MORE white streaks have appeared. And on top of it all, it doesn't seem to work--my chest still burns in only 20 minutes. I know I'm white, but that should be impossible with 70 SPF.

I have melasma and pat on a generous amount of this WONDERFUL sunscreen several minutes before applying mineral foundation. My makeup goes on flawlessly. Maybe the people who have complained are not letting the sunblock fully absorb. I cannot stress enough the smooth, undetectable nature of this product. It feels clean going on and works great. A super price, too. I have recommended it to several people.

Use a lower SPF to avoid chalky residue by lawstudentnyc in New York, NY on 8/23/08 Pros: Effective Protection, Non-comedogenic, UVA/UVB Protection Cons: White residue Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented Bottom Line: not recommended I am a devotee of the Neutrogena Dry Touch line, and have used it every summer since it came out to protect my extremely pale skin. When I saw that the sunblock came in SPF 70, I was excited to use such extreme protection! But for some reason, at this very high SPF (and on a very hot summer day), the lotion did not absorb properly as it usually does. It felt greasier than normal, and I was mortified to find out halfway through the day that it was leaving white residue on my black shorts. I looked like I'd sat in some flour. It was gross. Maybe I just got a bad bottle, because normally this stuff is AMAZING. Go for SPF 45 and you'll still be amazingly protected, but non-greasy and residue-free.

This product is the exact opposite of everything it claims to be- it is neither sheer nor dry-touch. It made my skin extremely greasy and I even broke out minutes after applying it!!! It deserves zero stars. Avoid this if you care about your complexion.

Better product out there by Cindi in Colorado mountains on 7/21/08 Cons: Greasy or Heavy, Runs Easily Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented Bottom Line: not recommended I live in Colorado and spend most of the summer days outside. Because of the high altitude the UV is as bad or worse than the beach, so I was excited to see an SPF 70 for more protection than the Neutrogena 55 I have been using. Unfortunately, I don't see this product as an improvement. The sunscreen is next to impossible to wear with make-up since it cakes under my foundation and makes my mascara smear; I am forced to make a decision to look unprofessional or wear sunscreen. It gets very slippery when you sweat and then when some got in my eye it really hurt; it is not a good choice for little kids! I eventually went to the bathroom and had to rinse my face and irrigate my eye. I have tried it when I was just out working in the yard and unfortunately it became a dirt magnet. When I came in my legs and arms were relatively clean but my face was several shades "browner" from all the dirt.

Whenever I stay in the sun for more than 30 mins, I know I will get a rash and sunburn. This product is the best investment I've ever made. It really protects against sunburn and stays on. I understand that some people don't like it and/or the white shade that it leaves on your skin. If you ask a doctor, you will know this is caused by the Heliplex which is what really protects your skin from sun damage. I would much rather have a white shade now, than skin problems in the future.

Do Not Use If You Have Dark Skin by Very Annoyed in Maplewood, NJ on 7/6/08 Cons: Greasy or Heavy Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented Bottom Line: not recommended If you have olive skin or darker this pricey sunscreen will leave a noticeable white or greyish stain on your skin. I have dark skin and the whitening effect of this sunscreen is horrendous. I even tried using a lotion as a base, then the suncreen on top to no avail. It's pasty, does not rub in well and the worst investment I've made in recent history.

This is the only sunblock on the market that has helioplex that protects you from UVA rays that actually cause cancer. It is not greasy and it doesn't leave white residue on the skin. It is very-very light and absorbs immediately! I have very fair skin and oily. Amazingly I was able to use this sunblock on my face under make-up. Usually I have hard time with creams and especially sunblocks absorbing into my skin. I had to write this review because the negative reviews I saw just don't do any justice to this product.

It is also not expensive and last a long time. My husband uses it also. I use the SPF 70 and sometimes SPF85. I noticed that the SPF 85 is really dry to the touch, I do not know why there would be a difference but the SPF 70 is a bit more greasy. Anyway no complaints from me, I think these products are superb.

I love the protection of ... by Melanie M in irvine, CA on 6/18/08 I love the protection of this but unfortunately in my estimation this is neither dry nor sheer. I have used Neutrogenas products for many years and am always trying the new sunscreen products, many of which have been discontinued. I have a feeling this will be reformulated and reintroduced. I will continue to use this for the fabulous SPF 70, but I need to keep looking for something more comfortable on my oily skin!

My skin burns really bad when I go in the sun, and it's like heat is coming from my skin when I reach in the shade, but this actually helped to reduce that. I am going to use it more often now. By the way, I am not very light skinned, so I usually didn't see a need to use sunblock, until recently.
