I know this is a lot to read, but I hope you do & it helps you - A lot of medications both prescription & over-the-counter, (OTC), specifically name MICONAZOLE (MONISTAT'S Generic name) along with the other anti-fungal medications of the same family as responsible for drug-drug interactions, & strongly recommend that you not use them w/certain prescriptions, OTC meds, supplements, vitamins, or even foods - substances or drugs. In fact, it's best not to use any new substance w/o 1st checking w/your health provider or Pharmacist if you are taking anything, when you start something new because regardless of what the new substance's label says about it's safety, everything should be treated as carefully as the drugs they are. Since, due to the individual way our bodies work, & the stuff we take in to them; there is always a chance of an interaction w/something we take or a condition we have, & some reactions can even be caused by the foods we eat. The Internet can be a source to find some of this information, but there really is no substitute to talking w/your own Pharmacist, or other health provider w/whom you have regular contact . An allergic reaction is another possibility w/the Monistat reactions, since the more often &/or longer the body is exposed to a medication or substance the more likely there is of developing an allergy. Which may become more severe w/each exposure, & a localized reaction may share some of the same symptoms as the yeast infection - redness, itching, bumps or hives, burning, swelling, etc, but it's also possible that the 3, 5, or 7 day dosing has caused a reaction, that was masked by the yeast infection symptoms themselves -which are very similar. On top of that, the area we use Monistat in/on is extremely sensitive, & maybe the 1 day strength is just too strong for some, as many women have shared discovering, & it makes sense that the strongest strength of the medication would cause the strongest reactions; thus being the most noticeable & unpleasant. Causing us to share this negative reaction to spare the next person is more common than sharing the expected reaction except when you are one that has the expected reaction in a sea of very negative reactions - one wants others to know it isn't all bad. No matter, if you even think it was a reaction, it is best to avoid using Monistat at least until you can discuss the reaction w/your health provider, or at all just as many of you say. Please Note: I'm just stating my opinion as both a woman that has had the occasional reaction over the years, & a working RN who has helped people decipher side effects & assisted w/notifying their health providers of the possible interactions. JMHO I know this was a lot to read, but I hope it helps.

I used Monistat 1 day cream Monday night. I woke up today and my vagina felt more irritated. I thought that was okay since the box warned me about increase in irritation. Although I never experienced increase in irritation before, I thought it was okay since the box mentioned it. Well, I almost flipped out when I went to the bathroom and saw that my inner lips were almost just as big as my outer lips. I'm currently waiting for the swelling to go down and I plan on seeing my doctor soon. I've googled many times today about the product and I was surprised yet comforted to see that I'm not the only one experiencing it. I've read over 50 reviews, and 49 of them were NEGATIVE! I think Monistat should be sued and the 1 day treatment should be pulled from the shelves immediately. I'm disgusted with their product!

Product works great, obviously one must consider what goes in must come out so I would recommend wearing a panty liner or pad or just put a towel on bed and let it flow. I too had that burning sensation from the insert coming out but I attributed that to the sensitivity I was having on my lab** majora from the initial symptoms of the yeast infection itself. But it was by no means worse than the yeast infection itself. [...]

I really don't know why there are so many negative reviews. Most yeast infection medicine says there will be a temporary increase in symptoms right on the box. Im prone to them and this was quick and easy.

I had a yeast infection 2 weeks ago and used another brand, 3 day treatment. At dinner last night I felt a tiny twinge down there and noticed the slightest drop of whitish vaginal discharge that let me know that I may be possibly heading toward another bout, so I took preventaitve measures and purchased the 1-day ovule. I put it inside me and went to sleep at 10:00 p.m.. I woke at 2:00 a.m. with terrible, terrible vaginal burning on my lab*a., cli***is, and even where the med had dripped back toward my an*s. My skin was red, the hood of my cli***is was cracked and bleeding a little, the cli***is itself was unbeleivable swollen, and my lab*a were twice their normal size and looked like slabs of raw, bleeding meat. I jumped out of bed and ran to the shower. I washed myself several times over the course of an hour, but the pain would not stop and the sweeling continued. I tried applying plain probiotic yougurt to my vag**a, which did nothing. I ended up doubled up screaming on the couch and crying in pain as my husband grabbed the car keys to get me to the ER. I asked him to wait a few more minutes to see what icing my vag**a would do, so he got me a cold pack from the freezer and a Tylonol with codine. BY 4:00 p.m. I was feeling mostly better and was able to go back to sleep thanks to the Tylonol and the cold pack. Really, the cold pack applied to the lab*a and cli***is really, really worked and worked quickly. I have used yeast meds before, but this ovule is HELL!

This product works only because after I used it, I was feeling very itchy and uncomfortable. I forgot all about the reasons I chose to use it in the first place. The side effects overshadowed the infection.

I will never ever use this product again! It burns and itches like heck, its unbearable - almost worse than the infection itself. It doesn't deserve a star at all.

I'm currently pregnant and all that... I caught a yeast infection... so I thought that if I take the one day treatment that the infection would heal faster... it took the same amount of time as the rest of the 3 to 7 day treatments..... I had intense swelling and it was very painful.... I wouldn't recommend the 1 day treatment to anyone...

Caused HORRIBLE swelling. I was so alarmed I almost went to the doctor. Did clear up the yeast infection, but only for about a week. Had another one 7 days later and I blame the Monistat.

I thought because it was a one dose treatment that I would heal faster. That is not true: it took just as long to heal with this product as with the 3 or 5 day treatments. I wish I had done those because this one-dose treatment was extremely strong and made me swell up for days. Before taking this product I was itchy and irritated but afterwards I was swollen and in a lot of pain. It did eventually clear the infection (about 6 days total) but I would highly recommend any woman to take a more extended treatment approach (aka a 3-day or 5-day dosage). This product is simply too painful and intense.
