i just hate shaving and my hair is so visible that i had to do it almost every day! what's great about this product is that it is painful the first couple of times but once your skin gets used to it, there's no pain at all. i don't like the fact that you have to stroke too many times on some parts but it is still better than shaving and less irritating. it also works on my face too!

Let me first say this product requires PATIENCE,PRACTICE, and A HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE before you can see good results. I am a person who can tolerate pain, I had prepared myself for Pain based upon reading the reviews. I also had let the Hair on my LEGS grow out for 4 weeks before using this product. This product takes SEVERAL uses to MASTER using it and to TOLERATE the Pain. For Me it took about 4 or 5 times to MASTER THIS. I ALMOST GAVE UP on this product, because of the first results. The first time using this my Legs were so HAIRY (2 or 3 hairs in one Hair follicule shaft), and it was very painful. It took me about a couple days to be able to Tolerate the pain and REMOVE ALL the Hair. I wasn't sure I was using the Machine correctly, because if you put the emoji TOO CLOSE to your SKIN and if you go TOO FAST it will CUT your SKIN UP. So thats what happen to me. I was very dissapointed the FIRSTcouple of times ONLY. I was happy with the removal in some AREAS where the hair came out EASILY, and how I had expected it too. I had TROUBLE using the emoji and had Trouble Areas on the Front of the legs( the flat part) and over the Knee AREA and the THIGHS AREAS were so Tender. The Second time using this I let my LEG HAIR grow out Again but got INGROWN HAIRS. I was so Frustrated. If you WAIT too long to let it grow out, the skin grows over it ( my Trouble areas were knee cap and sides of calfs).I had to pick some hairs out with Tweezers. So I purchsased Sea Salt Scrub for my third time HOPING I didn't waste my money and hoping to resolve this isssue. I just kept using this machine a little bit at a time, until I FINALLY got the hang of how to hold and use the machine, and it NO LONGER HURT MY LOWER LEGS. The THIGH AREA is a little bit Tender, but not like before. I tried my BIKINI AREA, and it HURT SO BAD THE FIRST TIME, SECOND TIME I USED ICE(but it seemed to make it worse). You have to build up a tolerance to the pain, after at least 5 or 6 times I am NOW ABLE TO DO BIKINI WITHOUT IT HURTING. IT NO LONGER HURTS like THE FIRST TIMES usin it. THIS product takes LONGER than SHAVING TIME, BECAUSE YOU have to GO OVER the HAIR A FEW TIMES for the plastic ROLLER to pull out the HAIR. I have had the emoji for at least 3 months, and I no longer kinck my legs. I have now MASTERED it and I don't get razor bumps(shaving) or KNICKS from IMPROPER USE of emojii. The hair on my LEGS grows out FINER. I am on the HAIRY side and it takes me about 1 hour to get ALL the HAIRS out on my LOWER and UPPER LEG, but I DONT have to SHAVE at all. I just TOUCH UP THE STRAY HAIRS. I also tried this on my UNDERARM, first time it hurt. Second time I didn't touch the outer white parts flat on my underarm. I instead lightley rolled the plastic roller away from the hair root. It worked and the results lasted. Give the Emoji time to show the results. THE HAIRS ARE FINER AND HOPEFULLY WITH TIME WILL DIMINISH.

The dual opposed tweezers work great at capturing all coarse and fine hairs, however, the shaver its self is very bulky. If it were thinner and a little more elongated, it would rate five stars in my book.

I bought this for the bikini area, but will use for legs. I hate shaving my bikini area. I have tried waxing, which is too messy and too much of a process. This is FAST and as effective as waxing. I was scared to try it, but it did not hurt as much as waxing and definitely not as much as plucking individual hairs. I am sold!

When my Emjoi Gold quit, I tried to replace it with a Braun, but couldn't send it back fast enough. This newer Emjoi is even better than what I had before. I'll never try another brand.

I remember the Epilady, a torture device that hurt so much I went back to shaving quickly. This product gives you the smoothness of waxing at a lower price, with much less time invested. I used it on my underarms and was surprised at how tolerable the discomfort was. I was a little tender afterwards, but no more than waxing or even what I get from a close shave. I am pretty pleased.

I believe this is the 6th Optima I have purchased. I tried upgrading to the newer Emjoi model and was disappointed - it just did not work. Drugstore.com graciously took the unit back and gave me a credit to order another Optima. This model works great - removes hair very effectively without having to go over areas over and over. The only issue I've ever had with it is that after a year or so, I guess it's little plastic gear wheels wear down and the unit stops functioning. But now that the price on the Optima has dropped significantly (used to be around $100) I have less of an issue with buying a new one every couple of years - it's still significantly cheaper than professional waxing.

Works great on legs on armpits. After a few months of use, hair comes in lighter or not at all. The second head is great for touch ups. After 6+ years of use, I only epilate once every 2-3 weeks now.

So I must be doing thing horribly wrong or something because this thing absolutely stinks. I exfoliated well for about a week in advance (daily), took a warm bath before hand so the hairs would be easier to get out, and the dang thing took out only about maybe 1/3 of the hair that was on my legs. (and that was after TWO days of multiple tries). Yes, I pulled the skin tight, yes, I did it at a 90 degree angle and didn't press down hard-- I barely touched my leg. I could feel some gentle snatching at the hairs, that's about it. Now I have some messed up legs with nice little red dots (yes I treated with witches hazel/aloe) that won't go away AND I'm still hairy. This thing is so not worth it.

I bought this several years ago from [...] and I really liked it. I still have mine and it works great.... better than shaving :)Drugstore.com had the best prices for this set. Other website you'd have to buy the attachment seperately and it doesnt come in a nice tidy box. [...] At first its REALLY REALLY painful to use, but you definitely get used to the pain. Actually you start liking the feel of the hair pulling out...(gross i know). Now it doesnt even hurt and I get a nice clean no bumpy armpit!! haha. Definitely worth the money. If my emjoi broke today I would get another one immediately... so so so much better than shaving and getting horrible thick coarse hair (gross, sorry again).
