Be sure to apply this product evenly, being careful not to leave any puddles or thick areas. Smooth it in. Its a great moisturizer. I have used this for several years, but cannot find it in local stores anymore. I used to buy a build-a-tan product which came in light, medium and dark (I bought the medium), and it had sun screen in it. Regular use kept me from burning at the beach. Wish I could still find this one.

I put this on one morning and by noon it made my legs streaky and orange! It was horrible! Then it took 3 days to scrub all of the uneven color away. For the price, this was a horrible product.

I started using this for 2 weeks. By week 2, not only did my skin have an uneven tan that looked weird- everytime I sweat I smelt like PEANUTS! It's so nasty... now I have this weird peanut smell, and no matter how many times I take a shower, it just won't go away. Everytime I work out, and I break a sweat I smell like peanuts, like what the heck? Don't get this stuff... unless you like smelling like peanuts.

I have read most of the reviews on here and I have come to the conclusion that the negative wrong wasn't about the product...it was about how the reviewer put it on. If you put this product on correctly, you will have no problem at all. I used it today, in fact, following self-tanner directions to the T, and I have a beautiful tan. It's a little light for me (I am fair skinned), so I will repeat the process tomorrow. And, it doesn't have a harsh smell as other self-tanners do. I can actually leave the house without taking another shower. What self-tanner directions: 1. Exfoliate for a few days before application. This is really the most important thing you can do. Your skin needs to be shed of its dead scaly layer of skin so the tanner isn¿t trying to work its way through it. In the shower, rub a body scrub all over your body making sure you spend time on the areas that tend to be dry and scaly such as the knees and elbows. 2. Moisturize every day the week before you tan. If not a week, at least a few days. You should apply body lotion liberally immediately after your shower or bath. In order to get an even application, your body needs to all start at the same place. Many times certain areas of your body, knees and ankles for example, are much drier than other areas. These areas soak up the self tanner which leads to blotchy coloring. Keeping your skin plumped up with moisture will help. 3. Do not apply the self tanner in your steamy bathroom. The heat and moisture in the bathroom can cause you to start to sweat and the self tanner can melt and drip which will cause streaks. Also, wait until your body has cooled down after your shower. Hot skin will have the same affect. 4. Take your time with application. Self tanning lotions take longer to dry than foam; if you need some extra time go with a lotion. If you have someone who can help, all the better. Start with one area of your body and work your way around. Pay attention to the part you¿re working on and don¿t rush. By moving slow and paying attention only to the area you¿re working on, you¿ll get much better results. 5. Dilute by half on the areas prone to dark spots. Your knees, ankles and elbows are usually first to show if you don¿t apply correctly. Mix half self tanner and half moisturizer for a more natural look. 6. Wash your hands multiple times during application Latex gloves are another option. Use a damp triangle makeup sponge to apply to the backs of your hands. This will keep the self tanner off your palms and right where you want it to go. I also recommended a sponge for the top of your feet as well. 7. Wait 15 minutes to get dressed. You may feel odd while waiting for your self tanner to dry, but if you don¿t wait you may stain your clothes or your sheets. Grab a magazine or give a friend a phone call to pass the time. How to use self-tanner on your face This is a four-step process. Pull hair up in a ponytail before you start so you don¿t miss any parts. According to InStyle¿s May 2007 issue, makeup artist Scott Barnes once missed a spot on Jennifer Lopez¿s ear because he forgot to pull her hair up.First, prep skin by gently cleansing and exfoliating. Skip moisturizer, which may interfere with the tanner. Step two: Apply undereye cream. According to Barnes in InStyle, you want the color of your skin to be lighter under the eyes, it makes you look younger. Step three: blend a few drops of self-tanner and equal parts moisturizer in the palm of your hand then apply over face and neck. You only want to go one shade darker than your natural color. Step four: Let color develop for three hours then follow up with a sweep of bronzer on forehead, cheeks and nose ¿ areas where the sun naturally shines. Don¿t forget: Smooth remaining tanner over earlobes and upper ears. Wash hands thoroughly. Don¿t skip the sunscreen. If you follow these, you will not be streaky at all. Remember: EXFOLIATE and TAKE YOUR TIME.

I am very fair and freckly. I tan on my upper body but not on my legs. They are always a glaring, bone-white. When exposed to sun, my legs just burn. They never tan. This product has been a huge help. The problem that I've had with other products is that they streak and/or the color doesn't look natural on me. I have brown hair, but I have the complexion of a red-head. I look best in browns, dark blues, dark greens, burgundy, & black -- if that helps to describe my skin tone. -- Anyway, this is the only product that gives me a natural looking color. I don't have any problems with streaking and I think the trick is in the application. I apply a very light coat each morning and rub it in very well. I use even less on my feet and knees. I wash my hands very well right after applying and I let the lotion dry for about 5 minutes before putting on my clothes. I haven't had any trouble with stained clothes, sheets, or cuticles. I scrub my legs with a body brush in the shower, but I don't use any additional moisturizer. After the first application, the color was just barely noticeable -- just enough to change my skin from ghost-white to light ivory. After four applications in total, I'm a little darker, but not too much. My advice to those who have had streaking or staining problems, use much less and rub it in very well. If it doesn't dry in 5 minutes, you've used too much. Some reviewers have complained about the smell. Self-tanners do have a distinctive odor that bothers me. I do smell it very faintly with this product as the color is developing, but then it goes away. Good luck.

It is a good product. I apply it after every shower. It's great for a little color. I like be able to control the color. It makes my legs look natural and I even apply it to my feet. It is extremely important with all indoor tanning products to first apply a good moisturizer before using the tanning lotion.

I didn't get too too dark right away but noticably tanner the next morning. Try mixing it with a regular lotion or what I do it use this and then smooth a regular lotion on after to even things out and I don't turn orange or get streaks! Good luck!

My late husband died from Malignant Melanoma. Sun damage is a major concern for me. I love this product. I've used many sunless tanning products over the years. Many have an annoying smell that seems to get stronger the more you use it, as well as streaking problems. This products goes on so creamy and smooth. Sure makes even coverage easier to accomplish. I've been using this for two weeks now. Initially every day, now every other day right after my shower. I also am careful to exfoliate my skin with a granulated gel during my shower. This will help with even coverage by removing any dry skin. With any tanning product, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly when finished or you will have problems with unwanted color on your hands.

I use this twice a week (on the weekend) to chase away the "ghost." I wish I had done this routine instead of sunbathing all of those years. It's a time saver, too. Instead of two hours spent sunbathing, my tan treatment takes about ten minutes. The pump makes application simple and quick. This product also has the best scent that I have tried (similar to baby powder); the others smell pretty bad. As with all self-tanners, don't be in a hurry to apply it, or you will get streaks. You have to take the time to blend and overlap areas.
