Sometimes gums, tongue, inside checks. Very painful and in may ways debilitating. At about age 40 I discovered a doctor who finally told me they could be treated with a powerful anti-inflamatory prescription drug called Colchicine. It is most commonly used for gout treatment. Requires close doctor supervision but it works! This drug combined with this wonderful toothpaste eliminated the ulcers virtually completely. Where I used to have 10 or 15 at a time, I now have maybe 1 or 2 a year and that is usually if I travel and forget this toothpaste. So, although the drug has changed my life it alone doesn't completely get rid of the problem. This toothpaste and the drug are, for me, the key to an ulcer free mouth! I keep a big stock because I am always afraid they will quit making it. Well worth the price. You don't have to use a lot. Most people use way more toothpaste than they really need. If I bit the inside of my lip or cheek, the wound would take a week or two to heal. Sometimes, swelling was so bad I could not talk. This toothpaste does not have sodium lauryl sulfate, the detergent that makes other pastes foam up so much. SLS also breaks down skin tissue. Now, using Rembrandt twice a day, the wounds heal within a couple days, and I don't have outbreaks. BUT - they've changed the formulation and this stuff is THICK! It takes a LOT of muscle to squeeze anything out of the tube. If it didn't do such a good job of beating canker sores, the aggravation would make it useless. I still get them occasionally, but it's rare, and they usually go away within two or three days (as opposed to 7-10 days). No one seems to know what causes canker sores, and I don't know why I was having them constantly. All I know is that this toothpaste has made my life better! It's hard to find in stores, so I was delighted to find it at drugstore.com. (They have lots of good deals on other things as well!) Since using Rembrandt canker sore toothpaste (5 years now) I have had almost no canker sores. They have removed the sodium laurel sulfate that causes the canker sores. I've used it for years, and found that it reduced the number of canker sore outbreaks by about 80%. I ran out of this product, and couldn't find it in any local stores, so I'm glad to find it here. I've had a canker sore almost every week since I stopped using it. It's a little pricey for toothpaste, but well worth it for the pain it prevents. I still get the occasional canker sore, but now they are infrequent. I use Rembrandt Canker Relief Gel for topical relief when pain is acute. Service and delivery comments: I used to spend a lot of time looking for this product at local pharmacies, but it is rarely in stock, so ordering on line is a huge convenience.
