Let's be honest: if you hike, live in the country, or just go outside these days, you will be eaten alive by mosquitos and you will pick up ticks and (in the South) chiggers and at the beach, sandfleas. The more DEET in the products you use, the less likely you are to get bitten, which means you're less likely to pick up diseases carried by these nasties (not to mention you can avoid the itchiness and pain of bites). Also, studies have shown that the percentage of DEET in a product directly correlates to how long the product lasts/works following application. Deep Woods Off has 25% DEET, while REPEL has 40%. Ergo, you don't have to spray as often. Most family and kid sprays have only single digit percentages of DEET - if they contain DEET at all. (Important note: you don't have to coat your skin with DEET for it to work. I always wear socks, shoes, and long pants when outside hiking/gardening, so I simply spray my shoes, socks and lower legs thoroughly. In the evening when mosquitos are out, I also spray my arms lightly and pat a few drops onto my neck.) I really cannot recommend REPEL enough - it's all I will buy now. Lastly, REPEL uses almost every drop in the aerosol can, unlike OFF. Our aerosol cans of OFF and other brands always leaves a significant amount in the bottle once the propellant is gone, but with REPEL you really do get your money's worth. I wish this brand had the same brand recognition as OFF, because it's getting harder to find. VS Most Liked Negative Review Avoid this company I purchased this to take on an island trip known for its yellow (biting) flies. Once on the island, I discovered the nozzle was faulty and completely quit working after one spray. I purchased this to take on an island trip known for its yellow (biting) flies. Comments about Repel Insect Repellent, Sportsmen Max, 40% Deet, 6.5 oz: I bought 2 bottles of the repellent and only one worked. The other cap was broken and I was on vacation out of the country so i couldn't exchange it. Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Repel Insect Repellent, Sportsmen Max, 40% Deet, 6.5 oz: I got this because somewhere I read it repels ticks. My poor dog was repeatedly getting infested by the monstrous little bloodsuckers and they like human blood too. I don't know if this product was what turned the tide but I'm finally winning thewar with these nasty pests. I spray my dog's fur lightly before each walk. I spray my tasty ankles to keep the mosquitoes away too. Pros

Comments about Repel Insect Repellent, Sportsmen Max, 40% Deet, 6.5 oz: We used this insect repellent in the Dominican Republic where the mosquitoes were brutal for my husband. After using this bug spray - no more mosquito bites. He also used it on the golf course and was not bitten. They landed on him, but no bites. There is no nasty smell or greasy feeling on the skin. The only complaint is that the sprayer did not work consistently, however, I will definitely buy this again. Pros

Comments about Repel Insect Repellent, Sportsmen Max, 40% Deet, 6.5 oz: This is the most effective spray I have ever used. It does not have a strong smell and leaves no oily, slimey film like other products. I am the one that is always the meal of choice to every bug in the woods, especially mosquitos. Spent several days trail riding in an area with large pools of stagnant water with large populations of mosquitos and biting deer flies. Never was bothered by anything. Did not sweat off and lasted all day without multiple applications. ![]() |
