It was the middle of the road option in terms of toxicity, since I brought one with DEET and a totally herbal bug repellant. Never had to use the one with DEET b/c this one kept the bugs from biting and we were near and in the rainforests of Costa Rica.

We used it at a beach house surrounded by marsh and shrubs - lots of mosquitos. We sprayed ourselves, and the deck chairs and tables. Definitely keeps the mosquitos off, and the smell, while strong, isn't altogether unpleasant.

Do not spray it near your face or breathe it in - it really puts a choke on you. For your face, spray it in your hands and rub on. I know that sounds obvious, but this stuff travels in the wind farther than normal bug spray -- if you spray it upwind of someone it'll put the choke on them, too. In other words, it's very, very, strong.

One thing: we purchased several bottles, and two of the spray pumps didn't work; we ended up marrying the contents of the bottles into the ones with the working spray pumps. It's a little annoying to have a brand-new bottle that doesn't spray while the mosquitos are closing in.

This is one of the best natural repellants that I have found. I am chemically sensitive and cannot use many poisonous or natural repellants. This one is very tolerable and it is very effective. I used it in Africa and in the States while doing yard work and boating and found it to be long-lasting, very effective, and have a subtle, non-reactive smell.

I garden every morning in the summer and this stuff works for hours. It's also perfect for beach trips in Mexico/Central America.

Repel Lemon Eucalyptus is the perfect combination: natural ingredients that don't harm the environment in a product that I find MORE effective against disease carrying mosquitoes any any other repellant I've used. Some people find the odor offensive, but it doesn't bother me.

It's hard to find in stores here in Indiana so I have to stock up online.

PREVIOUSLY, REPEL CONTAINED 40% LEMON EUCALYPTUS ACTIVE INGREDIENT, CURRENTLY THE BOTTLES CONTAIN ONLY 30%. THE EARLIER PRODUCTION BOTTLES HAD A VERY EFFECTIVE SPRAYER WITH A FLIP UP ARM TO STOP ANY LEAKAGE. CURRENTLY, REPEL HAS REPLACED THE EXCELLENT SPRAYER WITH A CHEAP VERSION THAT REQUIRES PRIMING BEFORE SPRAY IS EXITED AND A CHEAP CLEAR PLASTIC CAP WHICH IS EASILY KNOCKED OFF OR LOST. THIS PRODUCT IS CURRENTLY LESS EFFECTIVE AND CHEAPENED; THEREFORE, I AM RETURNING 6 OF THE UNUSED BOTTLES.

Used spray in NH woods on entire family. It works! Must reapply after about 2 hours, but it is a great choice for those who prefer a more natural approach for insect bite protection. Spray away from others and DO NOT spray near the face as it will make you cough and burn eyes/nose. I used it on my entire family, including my 9 month old, safely.

So far, nothing keeps away mosquitoes, gnats and ticks for as long as DEET. BUT, if DEET comes in contact with synthetic fabric, it will eat a hole right through it! I've tried lots of DEET alternatives and Repel works as well for two to three hours. Just spray-on a light "recharge", and you're good for another two to three hours.

The same packed product I bought this year at the SAME PRICE of last year (2010) contains 10% LESS Eucalyptus/lemon oil. This fact was not easily display on the product. It will be interesting to find out if it is as effective or I will have to use more of it.
Diference 30% active ingredient vs. 40% in previous.

I use it when hiking, backpacking also when i go to the West Africa which I seems to be mosquito heaven. I find it very effective and safe, I always use it in the garden in the late afternoon and evenings.
I keep a bottle in the car and one by the back door and front door!
