I used to use styling gel and liquid soap to protect my hairline, ears, and neck. They worked OK but I always wound up with one or two small places where my black coloring left a visible stain on my skin. I was skeptical of Repelle but gave it a try and I was very pleased. It completely blocked the color. After rinsing with water, I could still feel a very light layer of Repelle (just smooth, not greasy or sticky) which only took a single wipe with a towel to remove. I tend to be messy when applying color, so I used a wide band of Repelle and it took a while due to the relatively small width of the tube. Given the liberal amount I used, I can only get 2-3 treatments from a tube. That's not a great value but not bad either.

Vaseline probably will do just as good job, but i like the fact that it is easy to use and not messy. It seems to be non-condomic as my forehead does not break-out after using it (it did after Vaseline). I can get about 3-4 usages out of one pack. Again, it is a very good product if you don't mind to pay.

This product comes in a tube like lip balm and applies very easily to the areas that you're trying to keep the color off of. However, since it is so similar to lip balm, it makes me wonder if I should try Vaseline or lip balm in the future, which would be a much cheaper solution. I'm undecided about buying it again.
