I also read that it wasn't good for pots and pans, which concerned me a bit because I do throw my pots and pans in the dishwasher from time to time. I want to write it, though, if it may help someone to save some money and not purchase this without being able to try it first. I have very hard water that leaves deposits on everything, so I have to be really picky about the dish powder I use. I have a two-drawer dishwasher that recommends using powder detergent, and I have to use a rinse aid in every cycle. I usually use a powdered detergent + Lemi-Shine + rinse aid to get my dishes clean. I hoped that I could find a natural powdered detergent that would work well. Seventh Generation, if used with rinse aid but without the Lemi-Shine, leaves a thick, nasty, hard white residue on all my dishes and silverware, and all over the insides of the dishwasher. It's horrible and it doesn't wash off! I tried handwashing everything so I could scrub the residue off, but it didn't work. I had to run my dishes through TWO more times with Cascade + Lemi-Shine + rinse aid, to get the dishes clean. Maybe this works better if you don't have Southern California hard water, but, sadly, this will kill my usually great dishwasher if I continue to try to use it. Cons Best Uses Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear: I was so happy to find that Seventh Generation worked every bit as well as my old brands that were not environmentally friendly. Good price, too! Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Yes / No - You may also flag this review 10/3/2011 Great if you have allergies to scents Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear: I have an allergy to scented products and I like this soap very much. My dishwasher is older, and I have a soapdish inside that is divided. I use this soap on one side and on the other side, I put white vinegar. The vinegar makes my glasses spotless and very clean. I don't know if my water is hard or soft, but I have no problems with using this soap and would recommend it to try. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Cons Best Uses Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear: Have been using this product for many, many years after being disappointed in so many other products. The smell from many others is very bothering to me. When I eat off of my plates I don't want to smell perfume from using a cleaner for my dishes. You will love this product. Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear: I have tried to find a good product that is also safer for the environment. I make my own laundry soap, but because I have hard water I can't figure out how to make my own dishwasher detergent. Seventh generation works great, I couldn't be happier if I made it myself. Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear: I was i little afraid to try it based on some negative reviews and comments about spotting but I was determined to be "green" when using my new dishwasher. I started by making sure I ran hot water in my kitchen sink, never had a problem with spotting or clumps, I noticed my dishes are very shiny and cleans even dried food like melted cheese,( I did not pre-soak or rinse prior to wash). Excellent product, a little goes a long way, my first time using powder detergents and I am sold. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? It was impossible to measure or use and instead of being ecological, end up in the trash bin.
