I also read that it wasn't good for pots and pans, which concerned me a bit because I do throw my pots and pans in the dishwasher from time to time. I want to write it, though, if it may help someone to save some money and not purchase this without being able to try it first. I have very hard water that leaves deposits on everything, so I have to be really picky about the dish powder I use. I have a two-drawer dishwasher that recommends using powder detergent, and I have to use a rinse aid in every cycle. I usually use a powdered detergent + Lemi-Shine + rinse aid to get my dishes clean. I hoped that I could find a natural powdered detergent that would work well. Seventh Generation, if used with rinse aid but without the Lemi-Shine, leaves a thick, nasty, hard white residue on all my dishes and silverware, and all over the insides of the dishwasher. It's horrible and it doesn't wash off! I tried handwashing everything so I could scrub the residue off, but it didn't work. I had to run my dishes through TWO more times with Cascade + Lemi-Shine + rinse aid, to get the dishes clean. Maybe this works better if you don't have Southern California hard water, but, sadly, this will kill my usually great dishwasher if I continue to try to use it. Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear, 45 oz: I use this in a Kenmore HE dishwasher with stainless steel interior. Mom uses it in a Bosch HE with plastic interior. It not only works better than any other brand I've tried, green brands or not, but it even removes past soap scum-dulling on my oldest Williams-Sonoma glassware. I use it safely on my antique glassware and dishes on holidays as well as on contemporary stoneware and earthenware (top rack only for all of the above). My Mom now swears by this powder too. I saw a review saying the powder arrived caked-- I have never had that misfortune and have used it for four years. I keep it in the cupboard under the kitchen sink and it has always been fine. Pros

Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear, 45 oz: I've tried several different "green" dishwasher detergents and Seventh Generation is best by far. I've been using it for years. It cleans as well as a traditional detergent and leaves all of my dishes sparkling. I don't have to use a mountain's worth either. Pros

Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear, 45 oz: I always hated using my dishwasher, knowing how bad the products are to the environment. And the caustic smells always reminded me that I was using nasty chemicals. I've used this over a year now and my dishes come out just as clean as with other nasty products. I haven't even checked prices in a while to see if it's more expensive, because it's simply that much better to use for me and the planet. Pros

Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear, 45 oz: I have used this for seven years in my dishwasher and I have never had a problem with film, unclean dishes, or any of the problems other reviewers have noted. I don't think my water is particularly hard, so that may have something to do with my good results. I would recommend this product. Pros

Comments about Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Free & Clear, 45 oz: This works as well as other brands I have used (dishes come out clean, no residue), but the benefits of this are that it is environmentally friendly and does not test on animals. I figure if a product actually works well AND can claim both of those things then why not use it??? Pros
