He was strictly breastfeed for 5 weeks and we couldn't continue due to the feeding positioning and I couldn't figure out what in my diet might help him. I pumped to feed him in an upright position but my milk supply decreased and I started to supplement with formula. We tried normal formula and had a terrible time, we tried soy which helped a LITTLE and my doctor put him on Zantac. After weeks of constipation from the soy and the meds, we saw a specialist who told us to try him on this formula. She said to stop his reflux meds for a few days and give this a shot by itself. He's been on this for 36 hours and he is a new baby!! No more screaming in pain, no more projectile vomiting, no more gagging choking and aspirating! I am so happy! This formula really was a miracle for us and I would be willing to pay any price to have him be this comfortable. In fact, last night he was able to sleep in his own be for the 1st time ever! We had to hold and comfort him constantly before and he is finally getting good sleep. If your kiddo has reflux or severe colic I would give this formula a try. Oh, and it is not nearly as stinky as the regular Similac that smells like iron. My baby has no problem getting it down and doesn't seem bothered by the taste. Maybe baby taste buds are different! VS Most Liked Negative Review Expensive!!! This is the most expensive formula going. But, if your child is allergic to standard formula (as mine is), then they have you over the proverbial barrel. Cons Best Uses Comments about Similac Alimentum, Hypoallergenic Powder Formula, 16 oz: My son was diagnosed with severe GERD shortly after being discharged from the hospital around his due date(he was born severely premature at 24 weeks gestation). He was fed breastmilk that was fortified since he was born...tolerated it fine but then starting vomiting multiple times a day a few weeks past his due date. When I mean vomiting, I mean violent projectile vomits where he would heave and heave until there was nothing left. After 2 stomach ultrasounds ruling out pyloric stenosis and other serious causes, an upper GI, and many many appts with pediatric GI specialists in Boston, they told me he had severe GERD and that its so common with preemies and he will "outgrow it". Prilosec and time was the only answer I got. I had asked if a cows milk allergy is a possibility and they told me no, there is no blood in his stool. Well, long story short, after months of battling his "reflux" (feeding, vomiting, re-feeding, choking, refusing food, eating small amounts every hr)I was desperate. I decided to try this formula based on a friends suggestion whose daughter had a cows milk allergy. The first bottle I noticed an immediate difference. He ate 4 ounces (he was previously eating 2 ounces at a time and then either refusing the rest, or would start gagging or vomiting). He didn't choke, nothing came back up through his nose and he did't vomit. Its now been a week with NO vomiting, no stuffy nose, no cough, no choking or gagging. I can't believe he has been suffering the past 3 months because of an undiagnosed allergy/intolerance and the solution was so simple. This may or may not work for your baby, but it's worth a shot if your baby has been suffering from relux symptoms. You could be dealing with an actual allergy or intolerance that is manifesting itself as GERD. The first time my son tried this formula, there was no more eczema came out. This product is quite useful to my son. The only problem is that the smell is not good, and luckly, my son can accept it. Comments about Similac Alimentum, Hypoallergenic Powder Formula, 16 oz: My two month old son was using enfamil until he started breaking out with a rash all over his body and he also had some congestion so his doctor changed his milk to Alimentum. He has only been on it a few days and i havent seen a difference yet. I believe it does work because it is so expensive but it smell worst than anything ive ever smelled before, i almost throw up everytime i feed my son. he doesnt even drink the whole bottle and its probably because it taste as bad as it smells. i am so pi**ed off about this i dont know what the hell similac was thinking i mean dont they have something for that it is 2010. Its people who have walked on tha moon but they can't fix the smell of baby formula! lol!
