I am a registered nurse for 24 years and have suffered with chronic sinusitis for 15+ years. I have tried everything from making changes in my environment to nasal irrigation. My allergist, ENT, and general practitioner have all suggested I irrigate my sinuses twice a day. They say it's like washing your face. It makes sense.
I have done this off and on for years using a bulb syringe, a neti pot, and then the plastic squeeze bottle. I felt like the daily irrigation was doing nothing and I was still getting sinus infections. Plus, I kept getting fluid in my ears. So I resorted to just using the irrigation when I did get a sinus infection.
I happened to be talking to another nurse and she suggested I try a pulsating irrigator. I had seen the Grossan irrigator before, but thought, "What could it possibly do for me that the others do not?" I also thought, "I am willing to try anything." So I went to order it online and that is when I saw the SinuPulse. At this time, I didn't know which product to try since they cost the same and seemed to do the same thing.
I called and spoke with a service rep at Health Solutions. I was impressed that he took so much of his time to talk to me. He explained to me what the SinuPulse did. He emphasized how the SinuPulse sends a gentle but leveraged pulsating saline rinse into the nasal passages and lower sinuses. This pulsating action is more effective at removing debris because it can penetrate and get into more areas of the sinuses than a simple nasal wash product like a neti pot or bottle. It also helps to break down biofilm, massage the mucosa, and helps restore the function of the cilia. (The cilia are the microscopic hairs which naturally move debris from the sinus passages.)
I think the SinuPulse is well designed. The unit has no latex or rubber which is great for me since I am sensitive to these materials. The plastic is antimicrobial. The unit holds about 1 liter of solution. In addition to the nasal irrigation tip, there is an atomizer. I do not see this feature on the grossan product. By using this tip, you can administer a fine spray of saline into the sinus cavities. This is much more effective than using a saline spray bottle to keep your nose moist. You can also use it to administer medications or other rinses much more effectively than a simple spray. (I would consult with your physician about what solutions you can use with the atomizer.) When I have a sinus infection, I will use Pulmicort Respules, a steroid used for asthmatics in a nebulizer. (They inhale it.)
Besides the nasal irrigation tips, there are two for the throat. I didn't think I would use them. But I did and it helped tremendously. I sometimes get a nagging cough even though my sinuses feel clear. I guess there is still a fine layer of post nasal drip even after you irrigate the sinuses. It also has the atomizer tip to administer a fine mist your throat as needed.
When I first got the SinuPulse I had just finished a course of antibiotics for a sinus infection. But as usual, the sinus infection was not completely gone. I figured I would be on yet another course of antibiotics soon. Instead I tried the SinuPulse and within a week, the sinus infection was completely gone.
The other nice feature is the adjustable pressure. There is a knob to adjust the strength of the water pressure. With the sinus infection, my ears were starting to feel full. So I just irrigated my sinuses on the lowest setting. My ears did not get worse, in fact they cleared up since I was able to still irrigate my sinuses. In the past I would not irrigate my sinuses because it would just make my ears worse.
I am still amazed at how much clearer my sinus passages are after using the SinuPulse. I cannot believe how much better I feel. When I had the sinus infection, I used over a liter twice a day to irrigate my sinuses. Now I am in maintenance mode and use just 500cc twice a day.
I still use medication. One medication I use is Astelin, a nasal spray. Now when I use it after irrigating, the medication does not drip back out of my nose like usual. I'm guessing my sinus passages are clearer and the medication is covering more surface area.
I have been lazy and skipped irrigating my sinuses, but I find myself needing to irrigate my sinuses. Like most everyone, it is a hassle to irrigate your sinuses no matter what you use. But for the first time, I feel like this product is working, so I am using it.
I have noticed I have used less decongestants and expectorants too. I just haven't needed them. Knock on wood, I have not had a sinus related headache since I started using it. I tend to get many headaches along with the sinusitis.
You do need to get a system down and when you do, it only takes minutes and is very easy to use. It is not messy like the neti pot or squeeze bottle. With those, I would always get water everywhere including the mirror.
The true test will be how I do over time. I usually get a sinus infection about every 2-3 months. So, I'll have to see how I do especially with the cold and flu season approaching. At least now, I feel like I have some control over my situation and do not feel like I will have to suffer so much from sinus infections!
When I think of what one sinus infection costs, the SinuPulse is nothing. I have down time because I feel so awful. Then I end up spending money for at least one or two doctor visits, antibiotics, and sometimes a CT scan.
However, the rep at Health Solutions, told me to try the saccharin test. To do this, you place a little powder sweetener (like Sweet N Low) just inside your nose up against the septum and time how long it takes for you to taste the sweetener in the back of your throat. The first time I tried it, I never tasted it even after two tries and over one hour. Although, I did have a sinus infection still. I repeated the test about a week after the infection was gone and could taste the sweetener at 22 minutes.
I did look on the internet for information about the saccharin test. It is an easy way to test the "mucociliary" function in the nasal and sinus cavities. I plan to use this test to monitor my progress with the SinuPulse.

Some reviews I have read about the other irrigator claimed it can wear out early from the exposure to saline. The SinuPulse comes with a two year warranty. So I was not worried about investing in this product.
The SinuPulse comes with a certificate of medical necessity that can be completed by any physician for possible insurance reimbursement. Apparently many insurance companies will cover some of the cost and reimburse.
I highly recommend the SinuPulse to anyone who suffers from sinus problems. I think children could use it too as long as they are supervised.

This product was a huge disappointment. I was really hoping for some sinus and allergy relief but the cheap squeeze bottle I used before worked better than this. The only thing I like about the product is the throat/mouth attachment. It doesn't actually help get rid of the post nasal drip like it say, but I have large tonsils with crept and it helps clear the small food particles that occasionally get stuck in them. Not worth [$]! Save your money.

After suffering for years with sinus problems I found a doctor that recommended irrigating with the SinuPulse. Not wanting to spend that much money I tried the neti pot and bulb syringe first. They helped but they were hard to use and pretty messy. I decided to buy the SinuPulse from Health Solutions. I have to tell you I was really surprised how easy it is to use and quick. You add a package or teaspoon of salt to the water tank put the sinus tip up to your nose and turn it on. Do one side for about 15-20 sec and switch sides. No mess, quick and easy. I was surprised it actually seems like it uses less pressure but irrigates better. I guess because of the pulsation. I like that better so that I am not forcing bad stuff up my nose or aggravating my problems which I thought I was doing at times with the bulb syringe. I would recommend it to everyone. Great product.

[...] I had been struggling with sinus problems for many years which started with a bad cold and a sinus infection several years back. Several rounds of antibiotics and nasal sprays helped a little but never seemed to deal with the cause or get me over the hump, they just calmed things down . I had pretty much decided this is the way it would be and that sinus problems were something I was destined to live with. After reading about irrigation and the benefits of pulsating irrigation I took a chance and purchased a SinuPulse. I could not wait for the product to arrive. Drugstore.com delivered it quickly. It was really easy to set up and use. Since I have been using the SinuPulse I feel much better. I have not had any flare-ups or infections. My nasal congestion and headaches are under control as well. I am down to using it only 2 or 3 times a week except during the allergy season when I use it more regularly to keep the allergy symptoms in check before they start up. Since using the irrigator My symptoms are much improved and I feel like I have some control back. For me it has been money very well spent and something I have recommended to family and friends.

Comments about SinuPulse Elite, Advanced Nasal Sinus Irrigation System, Model SP100, 1 set:

I read where the LA Lakers and other sports teams use the SinuPulse. I had been using a neti pot but found it uncomfortable and only mildly effective. I have been suffering with allergies and sinus infections for years and wanted something to help me control the symptoms and help me get off the drugs that were becoming increasingly ineffective.

I carefully researched the SinuPulse and was impressed with both the professional endorsements from many well known sports teams and medical doctors.

When I received the SinuPulse I was pleased just how professional the product is and how very easy it is to set up. It comes with complete and very professional directions. You simply add one of the pre-measured saline packets that come with the irrigator(30 come with the unit) and mixed with a pint of warm water. I like that you can use any saline product or even mix your own by simply adding 1 tsp of regular salt to a pint of water. I just use regular tap water.

I figure it would be easier than the neti pot but was surprised just how easy it was. No mess only takes a minute to use and you’re done. The machine does everything all you have to do is lean over the sink place the sins tip to your nose and turn it on. No ridiculous positions or water running down my arm.

It does not take up much space at all and is easy to clean. It has been much more effective for me than anything else I have tried. Since using it I no longer wake up all congested and I don’t have to constantly clear my throat from the nagging post nasal drip. I have not had a sinus infection since using it or even a cold. My fingers are crossed that my good fortune continues. Its been great and recommend it to anyone fed up with allergy and sinus problems.

My teenage daughter was having severe sinus problems - to the point we thought she was going to have to have surgery. We had been using the sinus rinse bottle but this is much more effective. So far, we have been able to delay the surgery since she hasn't had a sinus infection since she started using the sinus irrigation system. [...] Very happy with product.

The SinuPulse really is a big improvement over other nasal irrigation methods. It’s rare that a product actually does what is intended. Nasal irrigation does take a little getting use to and it is a bit odd to say the least but the SinuPulse makes it so easy to do. Since I have been using it regularly for the past several months I am now down to using it about 2-3 times a week. For the first time in many years my symptoms are actually under control instead of them controlling me and that’s why I am so thrilled with it. I wish it was a little less but considering what it has done for my heath I actually would have paid more. It seems to get at the root of the problems which for me I believe was a fungal or maybe bacterial infection. The nasal washing with the bottle I did before helped but I had to do it everyday and the benefit was just OK. The SinuPulse really is a terrific item I highly recommend its use.

I have had sinus problems for 15 years, now. And in that 15 years I have tried just about anything and everything that would give me any relief from the constant sinus infections, thick post-nasal drip, and the obnoxious coughing I suffer with on a daily basis. I have had sinus surgery, weekly machine suction of my sinuses, and every homeopathic cure you can think of, nevertheless, NOTHING worked. My Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor always prescribed antibiotics, which were great in the beginning; however, I have built such a resistant to them, I have to search for alternative relief, otherwise, I am afraid that antibiotics will not work when I really need them. Anyways, about 4 years into my sinus condition (11 years ago), I found an article about nasal irrigation, and I immediately went out and bought a nasal bulb syringe (like the kind for babies) and started squirting saline up my nose on a daily basis. I found some relief from the irrigation, and I continued this on a daily basis. But yet I continued getting sinus infections every month, without fail. I still kept with the irrigation, because I felt it assisted with getting a lot of the infection out of my nose (I could actually see the infection go down the drain). I still look for the next best thing when it comes to getting rid of my sinus troubles; hence, enter: SinuPulse Elite® Nasal Irrigator System. When I read about and researched this product, I thought it would be my saving grace. Finally, something that would deliver the saline solution into my nose, at a pressure that would really wash, and get the infection out of my sinuses. I set up the SinuPulse as soon as I received it, and it was easy to set up. I prepared my saline solution, dumped it in the SinuPulse, and started irrigating. I turned the speed all the way up, and hung over the sink. I was immediately disappointed. Not only is the highest speed, extremely weak, I do not find much more relief than I do with my nasal bulb syringe. So the point of this tediously long review is, SAVE YOUR MONEY, and go and buy a $2 nasal bulb syringe to do your irrigating for you.

I used the squeeze bottle before I got this. In a lot of ways it's better: takes up less space, doesn't use electricity, you can stow it out of sight, and you can microwave it so the the water isn't cold. I'm using it instead of the bottle and heating the water in a mug, though they probably manufactured this thing for $15 and sell it for [$]. Although I still have sinus issues, I use this 1-2 times daily and I don't take allergy pills and nasal spray anymore. Not smoking helps alot too.
