Warnings
Niacin may cause temporary flushing, itching, and tingling, feelings of warmth and headache, particularly when beginning, increasing amount or changing brand of niacin. These effects seldom require discontinuing niacin use. Skin rash, upset stomach, and low blood pressure when standing are less common symptoms; if they persist, contact a physician.
Slo-Niacin Tablets should not be used by persons with a known sensitivity or allergy to niacin. Persons with heart disease, particularly those who have recurrent chest pain (angia) or who recently suffered a heart attack, should take niacin only under the supervision of a physician. Persons taking high blood pressure or cholesterol lowering drugs should contact a physician before taking niacin because of possible interactions. Do no take niacin unless recommended by and taken under the supervision of a physician if you have any of the following conditions: gallbladder disease, gout, arterial bleeding, glaucoma, diabetes, impaired liver function, peptic ulcer, pregnancy or lactating women. Increased uric acid and glucose levels and abnormal liver function tests have been reported in persons taking daily doses of 500 mg or more of niacin.
Discontinue use and consult a physician immediately if any of the following symptoms occur: persistent flu-like symptoms (nausea, vomiting, a general "not well" feeling); loss of appetite; a decrease in urine output associated with dark-colored urine; muscle discomfort such as tender, swollen muscles or muscle weakness; irregular heartbeat; or cloudy or blurry vision.

The Greatest for Reducing Cholestrol

When my health insurance would no longer pay for my Lipitor, I decided to check out natural supplements. I did my homework and heard alot of good things about Slo Niacin.
Early this week I went back to my doctor, told him about the Slo Niacin. He ordered bloodwork and when the results came back, my cholestrol level had dropped from 250 to 175.
At first I experienced 4 flushing reactions within a 4 week period. I then started taking Slo Niacin in the evening before bed and I haven't had another reaction since.
This is a great product and I am excited to share the news of this supplement with all my friends and co-workers.

I took this in place of my other Niacin because it said Slo-release. What a mistake! About 1 hour after taking one, I started feeling tingly and my ears and scalp started hurting - actually hurting - a burning hurt. My hubby looked at me and said, "wow." I looked in the mirror. I was totally red - head, neck, chest; like I had severe sunburn. I almost glowed red. My scalp and ears hurt. My hubby said he stopped taking this because he had the same reaction. He got yelled at for not throwing it away! I've taken 3 other types of Niacin and NONE of them, hurt nor flushed me as badly.
Comments about Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 500mg, Tablets, 100 ea:
I was diagnosed with 250 Cholesteral and my LDL was high, so rather than take the statin drugs, which affect liver and kidneys, I began with Slo Niacin. I eat well, no red meat for years, lots of vegetables, fruits, etc. and my Mother had very high Cholesterol so I knew it was Genetic. I bought this Niacin because of the slo release, so no flushing. It has been 1 week, my whole digestive system is a mess. I feel like I have irritable bowl syndrome. Gas, constipation, then diahhrea, and overall discomfort! I have stopped taking this product!!

I was prescibed this for lowering high triglycerides and raise Good Cholesterol through the Veterans Administration. So it can be a tax write off if it is prescribed.
Comments about Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 500mg, Tablets, 100 ea:
I was taking Niaspan a prescription form of slow release Niacin to raise my HDL Cholesterol. Niaspan is very expensive so I decided to to try Slo Niacin. I will see how effective it is when I get my blood test in a few weeks. Slo Niacin does not seem to cause flushing after the first few times I have used it. Niaspan caused brief flushing. If Slo Niacin raises my HDL, which I expect it will, it is a real winner.

I started with 250 mg per day and added 250 mg each week to prevent flushing. I leveled off at 1.5 grams at the recommendation of a guest on People's Pharmacy.
My cholesterol has gone down dramatically. I am very happy with Slo-Niacin.

Awaiting blood results and hoping this product helps with my Cholesterol. The first flshing caused some worry because I wasnt sure what had caused it, but its very sporadic and it seems like you get that effect when you eat certain foods or your adrenaline is pumping, still havent figured it out yet. Only taking 500mg a day in the morning with food.
